Submitting Videos

You can submit videos for games on the simExchange, such as a cinematic trailer, a gameplay video, an interview, or whatever as long as it is relevant to the game.

To submit a video, simply click on the Submit a Video link in the Videos heading on a game's stock page. The link looks like this:

Clicking on the link will load the following form on the right side of the window:

Short caption

This field is optional but helps other people know what to expect if they click on your link. Videos take time to load so people will want to know that this is a video about something they want to watch.

Video URL

This field is the link to get to the video. This can be a webpage (like something that ends in .html) or an actual video(something that ends in .mov or .wmv or .mpg). It is best to use the webpage if it is available so that the user can get a full view of the context.

An http:// is required with the link and is already provided for you in the field. If you are copying and pasting a link with an http:// already in it, be sure to paste OVER the existing http:// in the field.

Video Picture File URL

This field is the address of a small image to show as a thumbnail preview on the simExchange. This must be an actual image file (something that ends in .jpg or .gif).

This can be tricky as you can't easily grab one from the video. Simply right click on the thumbnail image at the source and choose the equivalent of "Copy Image Address" then paste that into the field. Try pasting this address intro your browser first just to make sure it works.

An http:// is required with the link and is already provided for you in the field. If you are copying and pasting a link with an http:// already in it, be sure to paste OVER the existing http:// in the field.

Source

The Source field is the name of the website or publication. What does the publication call itself? It is always best to be linking to the original source, but if all you can find is a redistribution of the video, you can just write the original source in the Source field. User your judgment, but it's always good to give credit where it's due.

Date of Video

This field is for when the video became public or whatever the website put as the date. If no date is available, select "NA" for Month, Day, and Year.

Then hit Submit and you are ready for show and tell!

Editing your videos

Oops! What if you submitted your video and just made a mistake? No worries. You can edit your video submissions. All you have to do is go to Your Videos.

Under each video submission, you will find a "Edit this Video" link. Just click on it and it will load a form to edit your video submission. Voila!
