While it may be nice to think that developers care exclusively about creating great games, the economics of the game creation process sometimes dictate otherwise. Forget the whole issue of who has the most consoles sold or who has the more powerful machine... the folks who sit in boardrooms and smoke 100$ bills look at how fast something can turn a profit. I remember seeing an article right here on the exchange that showed that most Wii and DS games are profitable after 100,000 units sold while XBox and PS3 games need 1,000,000 units sold. So when you have a system like the PS3 which has sold about 5.5 million units, you need a really insane attach-rate to break even. I hope I don't sound like a fanboy, but I think Nintendo figured out this equation long before any of us even considered it.
