@Laoldar, I myself doubt that a big corporation like Sony which has tasted the power of being the big console player won't be willing to do what MS did (throw a lot of money at problem to solve it) and would just go away, but I'd like to understand your point of view. What do you mean by the last part of your post? So they'd invent a profitable ps4? A new console is rarely profitable in the first years. And if they abandon ps3 so soon how can it be profitable?
But there's something else that I've been meaning to ask: is there any place I could study comparative graphs of yearly console sales by year in the lifecycle? I'm very curious how people calculate. For example 105 mil for lifetime Wii... we had 14mil for first year (vgc)... so does that mean that the peak sales are in year 3? Or is it 4? How many years... how do you estimate?
