I play games for the campaign/gameplay style. I am planning to go straight for Spore when it comes out for that reason.
Sure, online was fun for a little while to me, but it just became boring after a while with the noob players and whiny 6 year olds. (search Chocolate Milk Kid for prime example)
Some lasted longer than others; say, Warcraft 3, I played it for ages on end, until I got tired of the whiny players on Battle.net. The ability to edit maps to craft more campaigns was what sold me to the game
Now, if someone invents a game where we can have multi player (not just co-op) at the same time as doing the campaign, I would go straight for it.
