I am an early adopter of DVD (in 2001, I purchased a stand alone DVD player, and I bought PS2 in 2002, and had never played any DVD on PS2).
I am going to be a late adopter of Blu-ray (2009 or beyond). The reason is very simple : I don't have HDTV yet, and to enjoy Blu-ray to the fullest, I need HDTV.
To enjoy DVD, I only need component, and even using standard AV cable, I can enjoy DVD, which have significant improvement in movie quality compared to VHS or Video CD (not to mention DVD have only 1 plate, compared to 2 plate or more for VCD).
