Though it is quite evident that Nintendo is "owning" the industry in numbers - and this is a repeat of something that Pachter had said a month ago - I dont think Microsoft or Sony really have to worry about that. I think there is enough money in this industry for a system like the Wii to coexist with systems like the 360 and the PS3. I don't think any of these companies have to concern themselves too much with being "first". All they should care about is profit.
From a personal gaming stance, the kind of offerings on the Wii are so different from the offerings on 360/PS3. I personally prefer the offerings on the 360/PS3, and I know I'm not alone on this sentiment.
It might be likened to the digital camera market where you can have both the "point and shoot" digicam and the expensive DSLR digicam. Both offer their own plusses and minuses and cater to different audiences and different uses/situations.
But yeah I agree those 360 and PS3 hardware sales numbers were jaw dropping in the bad sort of way. I double taked when I first saw them.
