RE: Nintendo: Wii Has Highest Software Sales for First 18 Months
Fair enough, im sorry if you took my joke the wrong way too :). The internet doesnt convey the way that a comment is put across (which is its real meaning) too well.
I think that Wii Play should not be counted as it is only $10. Platinum releases like you suggested are still $30. There is a very big difference there and that difference changes the way the consumer thinks. A $10 spend is a spur of the moment thing to all, especially as its packed in with the Wiimote and only another $10 on top, not many people who are buying a second control will think twice about adding that to their purchase. Where as even a $30 price tag changes the way the majority of consumers think and takes it out of that instantanious buy mentality. So i dont think that sales at lowered retail prices should be taken out of the equation, its when they start at that ridiculously low retail price that i have an issue with as i believe all it does it provide PR and skew figures.
(It think it would be interesting to see how many and at what price point games have sold though, too see what kind of legs a game has and to find its true average market value.)
Some may say that Wii Play is a basic game with a clever marketing stratedgy, personally i think its an overpriced tacked on demo, i guess we'll have to agree to disagree :)
