So there would be no damage dealt to your car in any other mode when you hit obstacles or other cars? I always felt that was one of the core factors to a racing game. While you drive very fast, you have to be careful as to not damage your car and resulting performance hits to your car later in the race (and damage you have to repair with your winnings as in these RPG-like racing games). If the only cost to hit obstacles is having to re-accelerate, it makes the game far less realistic (which is what these games are going for) and more like bumper cars...or Mario Kart.
