VGcharts does NOT predict sales, so it's unfair to say that "well, people are just copying VGcharts!". However, using Vgcharts numbers as a guide (and, honestly, it's the ONLY online source to look up past numbers for comparisons of past releases) and using other information to predict sales is not useless...which, unfortunately, many people here think it is.
There is more to predicting sales than simply the first-month futures. Adjusting the stock prices to more accurately reflect that (which has to take into account the legs of the game, mass appeal, bundles, etc) is just as important, especially to game publishers. Many people here seem to want to focus this site solely on the first month futures, and that's really very unfortunate because it basically limits the attention span on stocks.
There are basically two sides to this site...the prediction of monthly sales and the prediction/determination of lifetime sales. Just because you personally favour on side doesn't mean you should advocate for the elimination of the other. Prediction sites NEED as many players as possible to gain accuracy, there's no way around that. In theory, the more players that join and use their DKP to influence stocks, the closer the site will come to using aggregate opinion to make predictions about sales.
People should be focusing less on what other players are doing, and focus more on getting more players (no matter how they play the game or what they focus on) to play. And unless the site admin decides to change the focus of the site to futures only (and I hope he doesn't), I don't see why so many people have a problem with players using sales data to adjust stock prices. Predicting lifetime sales requires it.
