September Total Software sales appears to be the hot contact. Lots of support at 65 when I think it should be substantially lower. Looks like one side is going to lose a lot of DKP this coming Thursday...maybe this market actually knows something and it'll come in higher than analyst's expect, but I sense mid 500 million is the whisper number.
In September we had Halo 3, The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Skate, Stranglehold, Bioshock (continued spillover from August), Metroid Prime 3 (continued spill over also), Heavenly Sword, Madden 08 (continued spillover from August), and various other games. I think it is quite possible that total software sales can reach $620-680 million (62-68DKP) mostly due to the anomaly that is Halo 3.
Only 640million i thought this would be much higher with especially halo out.Not to forget other games like bioxshock, metroid prime, medal of honour ,hevanly sword and stranglehold all sold well in september.
In August sales came out to just under $490 million. With some big titles coming out like Halo 3 (which will have a huge impact, especially since the limited and legendary editions had big price tags) and Phantom Hourglass, that should increase quite a bit. Plus we have a couple high profile PS3 releases that should make a mark.
I think we could see this get close to $700 million. Halo 3 alone will easily eclipse $150 million in the US in two weeks (assuming the launch number was for worldwide sales).
@Laoldar, Correct. I also read on a site that there were actually more sales last year in units sold for software for October, however the lower pricepoints of PS2 games $20 for many and $40 for most at the top end were a chief reason for little growth from Oct 05 to Oct 06 sales.
Also, the increase in next-gen console sales leads to a natural inflation in sales. PS3/360 games cost more than XB/PS2 games and Wii games are selling a LOT better than GC games did. That alone should lead to an increase in sales, especially since the PS2 is doing quite well still (along with a strong DS and signs of PSP sales increasing).
