@Joe80, We continue to roll back trades for folks in IPO Phase 1 when the trades are too high and too low while people learn how to place trades in the advanced trading mode.
Wouldn't 2 million new PS3 owners, 3 million new X owners and 4.5 million new Wii owners all buying full price games (ie...PS3 and Wii are not buying 2 year old discounted non tracked stuff) lead to a better than 20% increase in sales?
Some major games include Guitar Hero, Half Life, PGR4, Ratchet and Clank, Simpsons, Halo still recent.
As for DS and PSP you have 3.2 million more PSP and 8 million new DS users. For DS you have Zelda coming out.
(All numbers approx)
Here is a rough idea of all the software coming out in Oct and many titles in there should be strong sellers.
Anyway...I'm long at anything 50 and up so you're killing me today :) but thats the fun of the game right.
@Alpha, growth could be abnormally higher this year due to Halo 3. I would say 20% does price in the increased market from Wii and PS3 game sales. However, aren't retail sales slowing a bit this year? I think lots of retailers are reporting disappointing expectations for this year. More signs of recession.
Just had a great shorting opportunity on the October total sales future. Sales in October 2006 were $369 million, which I've now updated to the wiki. I don't know why people were buying up at $550 million
If we take the software sales growth of year on year from July 2006 to July 2007, which was 11% and add about 4% onto that (due to increasing sales as the holiday season draws near and more big name games being released), we get about $512.9 million flat but adding in the Halo 3 (which thesimexchange currently is predicting will sell 3 million copies in September) and the number rises to $692.9 million or nearly exactly near the IPO price. It seems that with the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and other high profile games, that total sales might be able to reach $700 million or more, but a range of 65-75DKP seems reasonable at the moment.
Just so people have a gauge as to September sales, here is a Gamasutra article detailing the software and hardware sales numbers for the United States in September 2006 (data provided by the NPD Group).
Quick Summary: -Software Sales: $446 million (up 29% from 2005) -The best selling game of the month was Xbox 360 exclusive Saints Row, followed by Lego Star Wars II and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. -Total video game sales for the month rose from $563 million last year to a new record of $777 million.
