If price was a major consideration, why wouldn't we see sales of last-gen consoles continue? In fact though, PS2 sales have sharply dropped over the past year...despite being cheaper and having a much larger game library than the Wii.
last but not least playstation 3 was given as a choice, and the uk price for basic and mid range packages given. Clearly most wii buyers were not against playstation 3, just found it too expensive even with the price cut. My friend picked up a xbox 360 premium, + 2 latest games (halo 3, pro evo soccer 2008 (really big in europe) and wheel + extra controller.... All free with the standard uk premuim xbox 360 price. (Nov 6 argos.co.uk sale). This clearly is not necessarily good if you are a MSFT shareholder, as discounts mean more losses, but this will help sales.
DO NOT FORGET, THE WII SELLS NOT JUST FOR ITS UNIQUE CONTROLLER BUT FOR BECAUSE ITS CHEAPEST!!!!!!!!!!1
Since you said what Microsoft consoles they already had (thanks for adding that in this time), you should recognize that your sample is biased. Since "many more" had an X-Box, then you've already started with a sample that's biased towards preferring the 360. This limits what you can conclude from your informal survey.
As a follow up, what games have the Wii owners tended to play? I would guess that they haven't played many of the great single player Wii games (Trauma Center, Metroid, Zelda, several VC games). If many tend to like the games that the X-Box/360 tend to offer (namely FPS and sports games) then it's clear why they would prefer it over the Wii (until more developers put out quality games like MoH Heroes 2 and Madden on the Wii).
Informal survey hence a post not a news as your right this is statistically insignificant, but if you are Warren Buffet you go with market feel. long term it pays off #1 point of survey .. wii will continue selling into non console players, and simultaneously increase the chances that a percentage of these new console buyer will also move onto more professional consoles, and xbox 360 being the choice becuase of lower cost, better online support and as good if not better graphics than playstation 3 #2 6 people in the survey already has xbox 360, many more had xbox. (england is usually slow in moving to new technology as people tend to wait for the dicount rounds before buying) #3 All the poeple interviewed believed the novelty of WII wears off, but its still fun only when friends come around to play # Anyone who plays a racer on the 360 and then on the wii, prefers the 360. no xbox 360 owner considered swapping their system for a wii, but 6/9 wii owners would consider it if given the right incentive(package).
We talked about the Halo effect maybe we should talk the COD effect too as it goes across more platforms and seems to have been equally well received on all of them.
It has achievements, so it is on live? Just how much Unique Users are there for a game connected to live (e.g. updateting archievements), not playing to live. GH II is also on the list.
1. Halo 3 2. Call of Duty 4 3. Gears of War 4. Guitar Hero III 5. Madden NFL 08 6. Guitar Hero II 7. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 8. Guitar Hero III Demo 9. Assassin's Creed 10. Forza Motorsport 2
(The interesting point is COD is now ahead of GOW and that AC is only in 9th)
I wrote him a parser for MyGamerCard. He found out that if you take the data from there with constant factor you come very near the numbers Microsoft published in press releases.
