@CrimsonFalcon167, the amount of the drop doesn't really make a difference. Something can lose 90% of its value in a day if the fundamentals go wrong. Look at what happened to Etrade (ETFC) last week.
People are confusing "amazing game" with "amazing sales". There's no reason to think that this game will be able to make 4 million in sales on the 360.
KOTOR was done by the same developer, had rave reviews, very similar gameplay and had the power of the Star Wars name behind it...it did less than 2 million on the original X-Box. Elder Scrolls Oblivion was widely considered the Game of the Year when released...it has sold barely over 2 million on the 360 (numbers from VGChartz, close enough for this point).
Why on Earth do people think this game will do better than these games? I think 1.5 million is a better estimate and this game will be lucky to hit it. I'm sure it's a fantastic game (it's on my future 360 wishlist), but it's not going to outsell nearly every title on the 360 (right now only Gears and Halo 3 have sold more than this prediction).
@justcrim, agreed, I had always thought this stock was getting out of hand. This has been a recurring trend as of late as a game's stock rises near release and then plummets soon after as actual sales do not reflect expectations.
I seriously think this game got out of hand. I was fighting for it to remain about 3 mil. But 4 mil is stretching it a bit far. I think it could do it, but coming from the reviews I am hearing, it would have to be better then it is to really reach 4 million.
I'm not a video game review score historian but does it not seem that more and more games are getting perfect scores...
What is driving this? Are review magazines and sites being swayed by sales/site hits that they will get when advertising the fact that they handed out yet another 10/10 or are we really reaching the zenith of potential on our consoles?
I like CoD4 and Ratchet and all (I can only speak from PS experience) but they are not 10/10 games...to me NOTHING can be if you an honest reviewer.
Full size readable scans of OXM Review where they give it a 10/10, saying "Personally, it's the best game I've ever played, but even if you're not a hardcore sci-fi nerd like me, Mass Effect is a transcendent experience, the new standard-setter for what a game can be." As well as "best story ever told in a videogame, period." (click on images for full size).
I think another thing you are doubting here is the names involved. Bioware developers have been making top title PC RPGs for over a decade. They have an Xbox following with their Knights of the Old Republic series. In many magazines they have had articles about their games, and how they have a very high average rating on them.
According to Gamespot.com Microsoft will still be publishing this game. Microsoft should advertise this game really well. It wont be another Halo to them, but I would expect great advertising regardless.
Bioshock was developed and published by 2k games. Not to say anything bad about them, but they do not hold the legacy Bioware has on games. Why people didnt buy Bioshock? Maybe it was just because people saw it as another FPS in a world where we have too many FPS to choose from. Bioshock on the other hand is in a world where good RPGs are rare. Good action RPGs are even rarer. So, for the whole collection of RPG players and action RPG players, this is one of few choices. For all the FPS fans out there, they have tons of shooter games to choose from, and just didnt see anything unique enough about Bioshock to justify the purchase.
And just so you know, I played the demo and liked it. One day when it isnt $60, I will buy it.
This is true, but the thing you have to remember about Mass Effect is that the game is massive. Who knows how many hours it will take to complete plus all the sidequests, unexplored worlds, and so on (plus replayability). I think Mass Effect will have longer legs than Bioshock, because with Bioshock you can completely beat the game in a rental or two. Mass Effect is the kind of game you need to buy to finish, and savor.
