It's disturbing to see the PSP selling more units than the PS3, maybe it's the unreasonable price (to some people) or just lack of a decent PS3 title hit. The Sony consoles were famous for their game titles which PS3 has yet to offer us any, with maybe the exception of Assassin's Creed, and/or sports game. BUT, I've asked alot of my friends and just people that I recently met, if they plan on purchasing a PS3 in the future. About 80% replied they WILL purchase one once the prices drop, like the PS2 which selled more units the year after it's release. I think the PS3 is still in the race, but it needs to hold out until people say "I guess I'll buy it now." I probably will.
@Alleluia_Cone, it appears the PS3 is getting stronger support as we approach the holidays, but it is uncertain to me if it is taking any market share from the other consoles as of yet. I wonder if the week after Black Friday has any slowdown in sales...assuming people who would've bought in the final week of the month instead were incentivized to buy on Black Friday.
On the front page of Gamespot their leading news item is estimating that 430,000 PS3s are going to be sold when the month of November is complete based on extrapolated sales data.
I was now reading about a new Home Beta Build 0.7.7and I must say I'm quite dissapointed. Those aren't the advanced features I was expecting for a product that's abotu to be released or should have been this year. I was expecting some new mindblowing features, a response to live's achievements...
@Laoldar, 52 weeks per year, at 52 weeks the chart shows PS3 & 360 nearly equal in sales, 360 is 100k above PS3 out of 5.6-5.5 million. VGC error could move each system up or down, but they'd still be nearly equal.
As I said in my 1st post regarding this: "PS3's 1st year of sales nearly matches 360's 1st year sales."
And that doesn't factor in the extra 4-5 months 360 was on sale in EU in its 1st year compared to PS3 on sale for 8 months in EU in its 1st year.
No, I looked at the chart that compares their 1st year sales (from launch). The 360 (in its first year) sold more than the PS3 in its first year (using the same source you used).
@Laoldar, You're misquoting me. I said "PS3 has not been dominated by 360 in any territory for 1st year sales, 360 has in JA."
The only place PS3 has been dominated is in USA, but that's when you figure in 360's 2nd year sales.
If PS3's sales in EU have been less than spectacular, which I mostly agree with, then one can also say that 360's sales in EU have been just as bad since EU sales of the 360 to date have been roughly half of what PS3 has sold to date. And 360 has been in EU for 2 years while PS3 has been in EU for about 8 months.
My point was that the equal worldwide numbers hide the territorial weakness of Sony. You say that they have equal worldwide numbers (which I agree), but then you claim that the PS3 is not being dominated anywhere, but clearly that's wrong. The PS3 is dominating the 360 in Japan, but DOES NOT have any lead worldwide, so the 360 has similar leads in the rest of the world.
"Furthermore PS3 has not been out for a year yet in EU/Other territories so if we include this information PS3 has actually outsold 360 in 1st year sales."
Fine, go ahead and say so. Their sales in Europe have been less than spectacular, so I doubt it'll matter much. Besides, that still doesn't change the fact that the PS3 is lagging behind in America. Leading in the North American market should could as "significant".
Looking back, I concede, the 360 had a better first year of titles (my mistake).
