Everytime one of the real companies that releases European Sales data, like ChartTrack, I have gone and compared it to VGChartz numbers. The one that stands out in particular was when they released the data for total number of PS3s in Europe about 8 or 9 months ago, and the VGChartz were off by almost 160% (too high), and when ChartTrack released sales data on the 360 and VGChartz was 50% too low.
There are not regular releases for sales data in Europe, so I have no idea where people on your forum are getting their data, but when the reputable comapnies release their data, VGChartz is always way off. Worse than with MediaCreate or NPD numbers.
I'm member of the forum there, and people of different country's constantly finding numbers for their country (Italy, france, uk, germany mainly). The overall numbers are close regularly. The community there support the site owner heavenly, as soon anybody sees a number from GFK and others (on websites etc) it gets posted in the forums so the site is as accurate as possible on the hardware. Where did you find numbers 80% off, for a overall hardware? Thats way to much?
Just curious, where are you getting the idea that Europe's numbers are accurate? Every time I've seen European Sales numbers released and compared them to VGChartz numbers they have been a good 80% off or more.
And another thing. VGC has US+CA as Amerca. Where do you get a 43% error range for the PS3? It was 20% last month! And that was the most far off of all hardware last month.
It does not leak NPD data! If it would, they would be out of the Internet by know, because NPD would sued their asses bigtime. I don't know how this rumor refuses to die. NPD questioned them how they get their data, and after clarification NPD had nothing to go on.
There European hardware numbers (overall) have been proven to be right on spot (in the error range that is appropriate) many times. Search their forums, there are a lot of people trying to find numbers from GFK and so on. Sorry but naming an adult a kid doesn't help your point. Their software numbers may be wrong, sometimes big, but the site is very open about the error range, and they got a lot of hardware and even Halo more right than we did last month. Just bashing a site, that is the only one available to bash it, doesn't help. The number are for free and someone puts a lot of work in it. If you can pay the 100k a month to get accurate info of every important country, then do so. Sorry, but they offer their service for FREE and I would say you get a lot out of the site for that amount of money you invest.
