As much as I'd like to think this game will be huge, I can't see it happening. While Japan has more DS' than GBAs, America doesn't. I don't think that it'll match American sales of the last Pokemon games, at least not for a few years. This game might be overpriced by 150-200 right now.
Its good to see this stock rising again, I still believe it's undervalued. Remember many people buy both copies of this game so really you're almost getting 2 sales for every person, though not everyone does this, this may be an reason Japanese sales have been so high. Definitely a good stock to buy ATM.
I've had the pleasure and privilege of hitting the Digg front page on three separate occasions in the history of my humble website. The first was Jack Thompson Claims "Starfighter" Video Game Led to Youth Saving Galaxy, the second was Hardcore Warcraft Fans Forced Into Reality For A Day, and the third was the recent hit Dude's Cyber Girlfriend Actually A Dude.
lol! My apologies then. I've been had :) GoNintendo posted it as serious and it's being treated as such on digg (no mention of it being satirical). Guess I'm just gullible :)
Hmm, apparently they felt they weren't mocked enough by people that didn't still live in the 18th century...details below:
"The Kansas Board of Education approved a controversial measure yesterday that will ban all Pokemon video games, trading cards, and related merchandise because of the franchise’s blatant promotion of evolution. The vote, which passed by a narrow margin after weeks of debate amongst members of the board, is being hailed as a victory by conservatives and religious groups." "Teachers will now be required to search their students at the beginning of the school day to make sure that they aren’t carrying any copies of the game. Any copies that are found will be immediately and permanently confiscated, and the student may be subject to punishments ranging from a temporary suspension to outright expulsion for repeat violators." "Many Kansas churches also held events geared towards encouraging children to drop the game, ranging from several “Pokemon burnings” where copies of the games were thrown into large bonfires, to programs that provided students with a free Bible for every game they turned in to church authorities." "Still other church groups, recognizing the addictive nature of video games, have started voluntary support groups for children where they can admit to their video game addiction and give over their life to a higher power in order to remain Pokemon free for the rest of their lives." "The ACLU has promised to take the Board of Education to court over the decision"
Seriously, this is pathetic. Nevermind that they're so backwoods that it took them NINE YEARS to notice this...by holding a old-fashioned burning? Wow. I feel bad for anyone in Kansas that isn't crazy...
Let's look to Japan for a few hard numbers to back up my speculation. Japan is a gold mine for salesage, being at the forefront of the console gaming industry and yet geographically smaller than California, making sales accounting quick and accurate. Numbers are according to VGcharts (love it or hate it) and corroborated by MC. So far D/P has sold a bit over 5mil, and soon it will surpass the sales of Ruby/Sapphire (5,357k), which went on to ship ~15mil worldwide. In comparison of consoles (DS vs GBA), the DS has already surpassed the GBA in sales within Japan (15,855,958 vs 15,326,384)*. So there you have it.
This pokemon is the first real pokemon coming out on the DS, I think it's severely undervalued. Previous forecasts assumed DS growth to match GBA growth, but we can already see that is nowhere near reality. With the projected DS install base, there is no telling where this installment of Pokemon will go.
Well, i guess I'll just never understand how this is able to work. But apparently according to "zukaus's" article "Pokemon ships crazy numbers in japan, 5 million units within first 3 months" It'll do very well just like you guys said, but i just will never get how a population will go against common sense.
