When I did a search for the game list it didn't show up. I didn't see the one you made or the the other guy made until after I submitted mine, so I don't know exactly what you want me to say to that comment?
This is THE big worldwide RTS. One third of Starcraft's sales are by South Koreans (over 3 million) where people have actually made careers of playing this game professionally. In 2005, one player reported earnings of over $200,000 USD. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starcraft
Hundreds of thousands of players still log on to Battle.net to play the original. If this is done right, it could do quite well in America...however, it could sell millions in Asia. It'll make 5 million on the name alone worldwide.
Does anyone have a link to how many copies the first Starcraft actually sold. For some reason, even though the first Starcraft has become legendary, the price of this stock seems a bit high. Several factors come in: will this game live up to the hype?, will better RTSs be out by the time this launches?, are there really 6.5 million people who are willing to buy this?, and the list goes on.
While I see this being a hit, it is hard to come by PC numbers and I have a feeling that this game will do in the 4 million range over say, 5 years, if it is as good as the first. The first Starcraft has become huge in Korea and it will be interesting to see how much that will drive sales of the new one.
While I'm quite excited for this game, I will hold reservations until I actually play it, but what has been shown so far looks great and I hope this game turns out to be as good as all the other Bliizard RTSs.
