@zeromous, So why is Wii Sports selling in japan? I say there is a huge userbase in NA that will buy this game. But it is not a game that is frontloaded (means that first numbers don't mean much) and the Eye Toy or Singstar sell in Europe like truckload. Both are first party. What up with GH? Just think about GH and think what would happen if that game would sell not only in NA but rather than in all territories.....
There is no Brain Age on the Wii. You're thinking of Big Brain Academy which is a different franchise (one DS game) and is more whimsical than Brain Age.
Stop looking at Wii Fit as a peripheral and start looking at it for what it is...a motion-centered series of games and exercise that happens to come packed with the balance board that translates those motions.
Also, look at Japan. Wii Sports is not bundled in but is selling incredibly well.
Probably not as well as the DS verions did, and definitely not as good at the sequel.
So far no one has introduced any sort of empirical evidence as to WHY Wii Fit will have "legs" that so many other (dis)similar first party peripherals didn't.
In fact, history generally does not support these numbers for any first party peripheral, so you're really going out on a limb. This was the point at which most who are bullish on Wii Fit exlclaim that its unlike anything we've ever seen before and people will pick it up in droves based on pure Wii-envy (non gamers buying Wiis because of Wii sports).
10 million people buy a Wii with Wii sports and suddenly this is normal or empirical? Give me a break!
You seem like a good trader Ben (you've killed me the last three months!), but I think you're looking in the wrong direction for value here.
After the first numbers are in, yes. And then after a half year it will get bought up again, because Wii Fit will have legs. Thats a Brain Age Type Game. First Month sales will be uninteresting, but never the less, it will fall hard after they are in.
Packing in the Power Pad didn't help it move...actually if I recall the "Power Pack" was ridiculously expensive when compared to the basic(mario) and intermediate (Mario/Duck Hunt) pack-in.
The power pack, was only eclipsed in poor sales performance by the R.O.B pack in it replaced.
That doesn't make a great case for the fit board being a good Wii Pack-in with Wii Sports/Fit.
Also, I feel that while the technology is way more advanced that the power pad or power glove, I don't think the analog motion tracking this offers has much more than auxiliary use in gaming. Perhaps I'm not being too imaginative, but the majority of designers out there aren't either. We'll see some stealth games support this (maybe), the odd kids game, and endless exercise iterations, but I just don't see this control scheme to be any more important than rumble.
Sure, it adds to immersion, but its not required to complete the experience.
@Laoldar, True enough, don't get me wrong, I think a bundle with the Wii Zapper would do wonders as well, I'm just saying if the Wii Fitboard is going to move millions of titles I have a feeling it will need to be packaged with the Wii (remember the NES bundle with the foodpad thingy?) before we'll see really widespread support for the game, otherwise I think we may see 4 or 5 titles that use it at most.

So now, its not a peripheral? Its a "special game" that uses a packed in balance board? Sounds like the Activator all over again or Super Scope 6.
Wii sports is moot, it has nothing to do with perhipherals.
You're right about the Brain Age, thats obviously what I meant...Big Brain Academy. Talk about brand confusion!
