For the PSP, I noticed an upward trend in sales. March averaged 36K weekly, April had 45.75K weekly, May had 55.25K weekly, and June had 58K weekly. Obviously, sales are picking up, for whatever variety of reasons.
If you expect even month-to-month for the PSP, then this should be valued at or around 23.20 DKP. If you expect the upward trend to continue, then go higher.
For the averaged sales, your weekly would be 48.75K and you would be looking for 19.50 DKP.
@saint, The other issue is so far this is the least predictable stock for us at the SimExchange. I suspect it's because it's the least popular one and gets the least amount of attention. I know I made a killing on it the last couple months by investing heavily in it.
Also keep in mind that we are still seeing the effects of the price drop for the PSP, that on top of all the positive press it's been receiving (even if it's being overshadowed sales and games wise by the DS) we've been seeing a steady increase in sales month to month and if you divide it into weekly sales I am expecting another increase with the June sales.
I think we should come back to this once we know how the PSP did in June.
i don't know. i'm on the fence on this one. As a consumer who follows this type of thing, i would personally never buy a piece of hardware for a fairly hefty sum of money when i knew full well it would be considered outdated in less than 2 months. on the other hand, you are correct that through E3 and their announcements they have given been given quite a bit of press about the PSP in general
Even retailers I've spoken to don't know about price drops before their corporate offices pass down the info. Most people don't obsess about gaming info and don't know about things like price drops until they happen. Yes, there are dedicated fans (and ones who are really excited for the product) who will know about this in advance, but most consumers will not. If things like MSRP were widely known, stores wouldn't have to post their prices in so many places.
Watch the language too...it's inappropriate and immature.
@zeromous, DO you have any evidence to the contrary Zero or are you just going to downbid me and post rants in every discussion thread?
The average person does not frequent IGN or any of the other Gaming websites. They might check out something on Consumer Reports or something along those lines, but thats about it. You see the same thing with Computer Sales as well.
No way, that will never happen!!!!!!!! According to Loaldar and Pilias, non-gamers don't even read the news, or research things on google before they drop assloads of cash on something frivolous as a PSP or PS3. In short these two have made it clear to thesimexchange, that regular consumers are completely ignorant.
Bare with me as I draw further conclusions, basically making crap up as I read in between the lines of their amazing posts on a similar topic in the PS3 forum.
My analysis is people will keep on buying the PSP 1.0 because they are ignorant and when everyone upgrades to the PSP 2.0 it will double sales. Then the PSP x.0 it will go on to be the best selling PSP of all time.
I don't know if you're talking about June or July.
June they weren't announced yet and I doubt it will affect June sales.
For July, I actually think the announcement will increase PSP sales because the PSP will get a bunch of free marketing from all the Gaming/News sources and increased exposure will sell more PSPs than usual, though not by a significant number.
does anyone else think that the PSP sales will go down this month due to the fact that we all know a new version and different colors are coming out in august or september? .. i just don't know how many people are going to run out to buy an old model now
I assume people are buying up PSP stock today due to the redesign news. However, I would think most people had baked a redesign into the forecast when the forecast was in the 40 million units range. I think we all knew the PSP would be updated at some point in its lifetime and I don't think the actual news we received (the exact updates) will extend the life of the PSP beyond what we were already forecasting.
