his comment sounded like he was talking about a range of days from january 23rd (the last mention of 175 dkp) till today. nothing in his comment sounded like he meant today. however that steep jump a few days ago does make it look like a single person.
people saw that it got so many awards and thought that it'd be a cool game "stock" to own without understanding the meaning of what they were buying into. /bittercampaign
I noticed that instead of going down to 180 DKP as suggested by the comments, BioShock has gone the other way, instead going up to 240. Is there any actual data to back this?
@sagexsdx, The problem is that, by all indications, this has sold less than 1.5 million copies. So even if you assume another 1/3rd in sales, that's still around 200DKP. I think any way you look at this, the stock is overpriced.
i would think if the movie were successful or even made, it would at least garner some interest in the game. it just seemed to me that would be what happened.
also i think if "bioshock 2" is released, it could possibly cause more sales of this game, especially if rumors are correct and it's a prequel.
i think those two things are some factors towards increased sales of this game.
@feelmyring, Bumping my previous comment, and adding a few things.
Movie rumors shouldn't affect this stock: since it is a critically successful IP, a sales from a potential movie should be priced in.
Due to a relatively poor awards showing, I don't think this game should be as high as it is, still. If BioShock was a clear winner in the GOTY races, winning multiple high profile GOTY awards, I could see a case for increased sales. But since it was mostly grouped in with a number of other critically acclaimed games (ME, Halo 3, COD4, etc), I think BioShock would get lost in the shuffle. Even among GOTY candidates, BioShock is mostly an "also ran" FPS hybrid that many fans have overlooked.
I still think the top for this stock should be in the 150-200 DKP range.
Irregardless of relative worth, the fact remains that barring any super fancy special edition aimed directly at BioShock super-fans (which would only add 25-30 DKP anyway), this stock is still over-priced.
@dselljr, I would have to agree that Bioshock is superior to Halo 3 but the real draw back for Bioshock is that the game itself it ridiculously short for an FPS. We've been spoiled by Half-Life 1 and Halo 1 to enjoying a couple of days worth of playtime and Bioshock is rather skimpy on that. There are a couple of other points I know of that have kept gamers away from leaping out and buying this game straight away, but the length seems to be the primary concern. I did a quick survey of the used bin at GameStop earlier and noticed that there are a couple of copies of Bioshock floating around in there. If that is any indication of potential holiday sales, I would reconsider investing any large amounts in this game and see what the GOTY edition will really add to sales overall, if anything. Honestly, if the game is making the rounds in the bargain bin by now and the holidays are already on us, I wouldn't have much hope for a GOTY edition to revive the sales beyond the expected amounts.
