Which I think is reason enough to stay grounded until the initial demand is over.
These numbers are all very impressive (which they are) but we still do not know how much pent up demand coupled the newness of the slim will be and how long this spike will last.
150k PS3 Slim sold first week in Japan, according to Famitsu. Note : Previous week, Famitsu's PS3 weekly sale is 2100. This meant 7043% improvement from BEFORE launch (even more impressive than UK's 1000%).
Same article, additional info :Comparison of PS3 sales vs others : “The sales increase is very impressive, making the PS3 the top selling hardware in Week 36. The Xbox 360, Wii and DS Lite all sold around the same amount last week – PS3 Slim outsold each of them by a ratio of three-to-one.”
Which means PS3 was outsold by X360 and Wii 3 to 1 BEFORE PS3 Slim release.
Chart-Track has told GamesIndustry.biz that sales of the PlayStation 3 have rocketed over 999 per cent in the past week, shifting eleven times the number of units sold the prior week.
Sony introduced the new, slimmer SKU last Tuesday. "The uplift on week 36 on week 35 is plus 999 per cent," revealed Bloch. "We don't give out the hardware numbers, but never-the-less it's a very large increase."
@afsplat,There is little new functionality though...window dressing for the purposes of pushing the PSN Store more forward...other than that a disappointing update that frankly leaves the XMB looking like it is trying hard to be something other than its once elegant and simple interface. JMO
You can give your XMB the overhaul it so richly deserves with the recently released Firmware 3.00 System Update, which adds the "What's New" section, a status indicator, a renovated friends list, PlayStation Store shortcuts, and animated backgrounds to your PS3's main menu screen.
Yes, you should have put "estimates" in the post title because that's exactly what it is. Many SimExchange players will not click on the link itself and some may not even see that the source is VGC or be able to infer what it means as readily as you suggest.
The source is irrelevant. I could have posted Anita Frazier's hypothesis that PS3 sales would rise 40-60% after the price cut as "NPD: PS3 sales rise 40-60%". It would have been just as inaccurate.
