"I remember saying three years ago that we wanted to create something revolutionary, but in reality we couldn't really do that because of the CPU. We're using the Cell engine to its limit, actually. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing the PS3 machine, it's just that we weren't really aware of what the full-spec PS3 offered - we were creating something we couldn't entirely see."
Metal Gear Solid 4 fans have known for a while that pre-ordering the upcoming title from Konami would earn them the Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2.0 disc as well as a code to enter the Metal Gear Online beta. Earlier today, on the PlayStation.Blog, Konami further explained everything that players will need to do to experience the online version of the game
Damn, if i didnt have so much work to do tonight i would so read every last word of this. i havent played the first two metal gears in so long and when i did i was rather young and so didnt fully understand the story. i really liked them though and as i went through the third i didnt really get all the references but id already lost the first two so couldnt play them again but i still loved the story and wanted to know more about it but never bothered.
im contemplating buying a ps3 JUST for MGS4 is how much i love the series.
The story of Metal Gear, in its entirety, begins with The Boss.
The Boss is a woman who, in her mid-20s, assembled a
cooperative special forces unit of american and soviet operatives in WWII that played a significant role in the allied victory (the "Cobra Unit".) Upon the start of the cold war, the Cobras were disbanded as her loyalties remained with the United States.
"Well here’s some great news for the often forgotten Europeans. Although North American’s must pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4 to access the Metal Gear Online Beta, Europeans will be able to download the Beta for free, and with no need for a code."

Konami has announced that the Metal Gear online Open Beta will commence on April 21 and run until May 6. The Beta will be available to download from the PlayStation Store from April 17.
Players will have access to two maps, Blood Bath and Groznyi Grad, each requiring cooperative team-based play.
We are confirming that there will be a North America offering of this VERY, VERY Limited Edition bundle! This is the “gunmetal grey” PS3 – the one seen selling out in a matter of moments in Japan at the KonamiStyle web store. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting product!
Some excerpts I wanted to include that there was not space for:
"All cutscenes are in-engine presentations of story points. However, they are interactive because of the L1 and X button presses that will crop up here and there during a plot point that allows you to trigger new angles or flashbacks on previous scenes from the Metal Gear franchise. As previously stated, these will also add to your Drebin Point total."
"There is definitely a vibrant set of colors based on the environment you find yourself in. Even the Middle Eastern section has much more color than the gray abstract areas seen in images and trailers."
"There are four initial difficulty levels available in Metal Gear Solid 4: Liquid Easy, Naked Normal, Solid Normal and Big Boss Hard. Naked Normal was the default difficulty of the game. Preview coverage of the game that has recently hit the Internet from the MGS4 Boot Camp in Nasu were all played on the Solid Normal difficulty setting."
"Yes, players can change or adjust elements of the HUD." (sounds very innovative)
I'll stop there so I don't share too much of the article here, but there's a lot more interesting info.
IGN has answered all the questions about the game from their readers. Including: Resolution & Audio supported, controls & options, playing entire game in FPS mode, questions about animation & frame rate, what Drebin Points do, Dualshock 3 info, CQC info, and more. Excerpt: "The title looks much sharper than trailers or screenshots show."
IGN had the opportunity to finsh the game and their opinion is:
"...this is the system seller that we've all known Metal Gear Solid 4 was going to be."
More informations after the jump.
