VGChartz has today release preliminary first day figures for Halo Wars.
Over 250,000 units of the title were sold on the first day of release including midnight launches at many retailers across the country.
Sales of Halo Wars are expected to comfortably pass one million worldwide, likely hitting 2-3 million making the title easily the most successful Xbox360 RTS game to date, with the title already having sold over 200,000 units outside of the Americas.
@afsplat, We will witness the power of the "Halo" brand with this game. I am really looking forward to sales of this game, since it is my second biggest short investment in the GLS stocks category.
@apujanata, I would guess the "Halo" in the name and the stands in Gamespot will pull in some sales. There's no way it's going to sell huge, but it should do ok.
@Arbiter, I don't play RTS (I prefer turn-based SRPG), but from forums, it seems that this game is very good (simplify RTS games). Whether this will translate into good sales is anyone's guesses. The fact that I am short on this should tell you about my expectation.
I'm surprised there are so many reviews out for this game already. Averaging an 83 on Metacritic right now, though Gamespot gave it a 65, which is pretty poor. What do you guys think about the game's chances of making RTS work on console?
Halo Wars deftly dodges between the hardcore micromanagement of real-time strategy and the instant gratification expected by Halo fans. Ensemble has nailed console RTS controls, but at the expense of some depth. The campaign missions often seem overly scripted and the experience doesn't have the wide-open feel of some other RTSs. The cinematic cutscenes are gorgeous, if the narrative is somewhat thin in places.
There are so many ways that Halo Wars is an important game - it's real-time strategy on console, it's Halo in a new genre, it's Ensemble's swansong, it's another blow in the console wars - but while they could easily dominate your thoughts as you play it, they don't. Instead they just evaporate in the face of such a confident, self-assured and elegantly constructed videogame.
Couldn't agree more on the game based on the demo. Sold me within a few minutes.
I think quite a few people were presently surprised reading around the net. I'm going to make a mint on Hubdub mind when this doesn't sell more copies than Halo 3 in it's first week!
Would seem to be standard get out jail free practice even the offer of a Burger King burger comes with the caveat of "particapting" and "subject to availability" so not really suprised or concerned.
@OuterHaven, "Available at participating retailers, the Halo Wars offer applies to the entire Xbox 360 range of consoles and will run from February 26th to March 26th or until stock runs out."
Hmm. I am quite surprised at the bolded parts. Not available at every retailer, and not available in unlimited quantities sure is a strange promotion.
