According to ELSPA and Gfk Charttrack, Sony's Killzone 2 has so far sold more than Capcom's Resident Evil 5 in 2009.
What was most surprising when I was browsing ELSPA and Gfk Charttrack's top selling video games of 2009 was not that the list was dominated by family-orientated Nintendo Wii games, but that Killzone 2 was positioned ahead of Resident Evil 5.
@apujanata,You think Guerilla would link to VG numbers (in this case) if they didn't agree with them? I'd think a company would be careful about doing that if it wasn't close to reality.
@apujanata, Since the source is VGC, not publisher/NPD/ELSPA/Gfk, I believe lots of simEx players would be very cautious in using this data. Anyone making investment based on VGC data should be prepared for "possibly big error margin", and invest accordingly.
@PhilHarrision, 1.5 Million sales ? I can prove that it (1.5 Million) comes from VGC, not formal KZ2 news.
Even though the link to 1.5 Million could indeed be found on the twitter feed, the source is NOT from them. The source is gamekicker, which take the news from ps3hype.nl and in the ps3hype.nl newssite, it is clearly indicated that they referenced VGC.
It's taken Killzone 2 nearly seven weeks to reach the million milestone, and how that should be celebrated will largely depend on your loyalties. In comparison, Super Smash Bros. Brawl took a mere week to reach that magic number; Gears of War 2 managed to sell twice that much in its first week. Regardless, a million copies is nothing to scoff at -- we're certain these sales provided a nice injection of cash into the Sony war chest.
It is low. But there's a couple ways to skew it - first, I'm pretty sure it's only the US, and second, they didn't give an upper bound. It could have passed 500K by 250K.
Maybe it was that snazzy commercial or those poor souls who confused it with Dead Space, but Killzone 2 has set a sales record, becoming the fastest first-party PS3 title to reach 500,000 units sold. Scott Steinberg, VP of Product Marketing at SCEA, added that the game is the highest-selling SCEA PS3 title for the first 30 days out of launch, saying the company was "extremely happy with the results."
