Killzone 2 has never lacked in the pre-rendered department. Heck, the game's most famous (or is that: infamous?) for its unbelievable visual razzle-dazzle. All smoke and mirrors or not, this is the official intro cinematic that's included in the game. Pre-rendered, in-engine, whatever -- it's definitely not playable. So sit back, dim the lights, and enjoy.
"Taken as a whole, Killzone 2 doesn't initially seem to offer enough to justify the superlatives that have been dutifully set aside by the PS3 faithful. It's deceptive though. Killzone 2 is a taut and muscular game, a shooter that gives back more than you put in, provided you have the intestinal fortitude."
Killzone 2 is only a short month away from hitting shelves, but the game will definitely be worth the wait. The single-player experience is a truly enjoyable campaign across the Helghast home world that will test your skills, particularly on the higher difficulty levels, and the game simply looks phenomenal for a console shooter.
Not pre-ordering Killzone 2? Curious as to when you'll be granted access to the demo on PSN? Short answer: Thursday, February 26th, a day before the game's official release, Sony has confirmed through MTV Multiplayer. Of course, those who pre-order the game -- exclusively through GameStop -- will be able to download and play the demo as early as February 2nd.
PlayStation Official Magazine UK have weighed in with their review, and it doesn’t disappoint.
Scoring an impressive 9 out of 10 and gaining their coveted Gold Award, the headline says it all - ‘Sony’s flagship shooter pwns all’. Indeed, in the ‘info box’ they say the game is like ‘Call of Duty set in double-gravity space, directed by Ridley Scott and rendered by God’.
The awareness for the Killzone brand is very strong (due to heavy marketing of the first title). However, the sales were subdued from the game quality. The main obstacle for Sony first party titles of this generation have not been due to lack of hype or awareness, but due to very poor game quality. Lair is the screaming example of this.
They better be investing in quality this time around and not marketing.
An unnamed and unconfirmed Sony employee reportedly told game site V For Video Games, "“It would be a lie to say Sony has not invested heavily in Killzone 2 and each individual at Guerilla games has worked even harder to satisfy any expectations kept by the company and their loyal community. I do see the game breaking a barrier with a huge variety of groups and expect it to see sales as good as Metal Gear Solid 4 if not beyond it."
