Was GT a console mover, or did it benefit from the huge install bases of the PS/PS2? Does anyone have any info on console sales before/after GT launch?
@chill21genlee, Note I only hold 5 shares in this game, so my opinion is not biased.
The first GT game released on each Playstation was the one with the best sales. GT3 14.87 million GT1 10.85 million GT2 9.37 million GT4 8.79 million & still selling
You believe GT4 can't sell as well as a FF title, but the numbers say it can/does. FF VII 9.72 million FF X 7.95 million FF VIII 7.86 million FF XII 4.94 million & still selling FF IX 5.30 million
Likewise the same rationale behind MGS vs GT: MGS1 5.59 million MGS2 5.56 million MGS3 3.96 million (not including the Special Edition Releases)
Given all of this info I am trying to show that GT is a better selling game than FF or MGS games, and likewise it may be more of a console mover. But I think GT5 could be a little overvalued at this point, MGS4 could be a little less overvalued, & FFXIII could be a little overvalued.
like I said, I don't believe it will be as big, I'm just trying to explain where the idea is coming from.
If you look at GT sales in the past you'll see that they did in fact beat out Halo sales, so technically there are more people familiar with GT than with Halo.
Its just a question of whether or not those people will upgrade to a PS3.
I can see where each of those factors may aide in sales to a degree, but I can't foresee it having as much of an impact as predicted. The market for this stock is essentially propping it up as a console seller with sales relative to Halo 3 on the 360, relative as there is obviously a pretty huge delta in the installed bases for the 2 platforms. Can you justify the assertion that a Gran Turismo game will do for the PS3 what H3 did for the 360. You make good points, I just don't think they are going to be as huge as predicted.
The basic idea is that this game will convert many PS2 owners to the PS3 and the game will maintain a fair amount of sales from the previous games, not to mention it will likely end up bundled with the PS3, like GT was for the PS2.
I am personally skeptical of this, but we'll see how it goes.
Almost 6 1/2 Million Copies of a Racing Game on PS3?? Granted it's Gran Turismo, but still. What possible rationale could there be for thinking this game will sell 2 million more copies than MGS4, and almost as many copies as GTA IV and the next "real" Final Fantasy game (which is also WAY overpriced IMO). Am I missing something here? I am just dumbfounded that we as a community think this racing sim game, for PS3 to boot, could possibly reach these lofty heights. To put things in an admittedly not completely one to one perspective, Motorstorm has sold ONE TENTH of this projection so far, and I believe that includes the copies that are bundled!
Gamers will be able to download episodes of BBC Two show Top Gear inside video game Gran Turismo 5.
This is an interesting concept further integrating Broadcast entertainment with Video games.
For anyone who watches Top Gear this is great i love the show and it will appeal to anyone petrol head or not.
From the sun shining off of the cars in replays to the immense amount of details to the cars, there’s not a moment when seeing the replays that you don’t find some amazing detail that you didn’t notice before. You may notice the new in-car view. Not only is the dashboard and rear window highly-detailed, you can get a quick look behind you through the rear-view mirror or by tapping the look-back button to see who’s behind you through the car’s actual rear window, back seat and all.
