At least on 360/PS3. The games are just way to expensive to bring them out on one (or some game maybe only 360) alone. Companies need to earn money, and both of the HD consoles have weakness in their install base. And the interesting thing is, that where one is weak, the other is strong ;)
@apujanata, Fan petitions have been successful in the past on at least 2 occasions, but I cannot remember what they were for. I think any petition now that has to do with exclusivity will never be successful however. The days of exclusivity are done for 3rd party. Unless it is paid for.
"Ok, so we now know that Final Fantasy XIII will be coming to XBOX 360 as well as the PlayStation 3. This is pathetic, we know you want to make more money, SQUARE ENIX, but come on, this is an insult to both nintendo and SONY."
"So if you're a FINAL FANTASY fan, and wish for FINAL FANTASY to remain with nintendo and PlayStation - sign this petition, and if SQUARE ENIX have any decency left in them, they'll take notice of their TRUE fans! "
As TRUE fans of Square Enix, I refuse to sign this kind of petition. :)
Was there ever a success story of game company acting on fans petition ?
@Laoldar, I am PS2 JRPG fans (and PS JRPG fans, having had lots of FF games, DQ game etc).
I AM NOT solidly in 360's corner NOW, but I did change my view of X360 from "no way" to "maybe", and PS3 from "maybe" to "probably not". The only way for me to change X360 from "maybe" to "yes" is : - I got HDTV (I know that I don't need to get HDTV, but I decided to get PS3 or X360 AFTER I got HDTV) - I am fully convinced that X360 does not have reliability issue anymore (I am NOT 100% convinced yet). I live in country that doesn't have warranty coverage of X360 from Microsoft directly, so any H/W problem will cost me lots of money. I don't mind paying money for games, but I don't like paying money for H/W issue.
"The recovery of this stock price is irrational." Irrational to you (and me), but rational to those who purchase those stocks. It is very unfortunate that I don't have short on FFXIII, so I didn't get big profit today from this. :(
It should be pointed out that Final Fantasy titles sell about 1/3 of their total in Japan. That means it's multiplatform for 2/3 of its market (possibly higher as other markets have grown since the alst releases).
The recovery of this stock price is irrational. I think there's the real possibility of seeing a GTA4-type split in sales among the two platforms and this could be the final straw that puts the PS2 JRPG fans solidly in the 360's corner. The 360 has a greater selection of RPGs that are exclusive and now has FF.
Square Enix exec Shinji Hashimoto told reporters: "I think you are right [in assuming that (the Xbox 360 version) is not coming out in Japan.]" It will only appear on Xbox 360 in English-speaking territories. In addition, Final Fantasy XIII will release in Japan first -- and then will be localized for the international audience... Also, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still in development as a PS3 exclusive.
Sorry, Sony. The Xbox 360 is finally going to get a blockbuster RPG. Square has announced at the Microsoft press conference that Final Fantasy XIII is going to be released on Xbox 360 the same day as PS3 in North America and Europe. What a huge coup for Microsoft, and what a great piece of news for Xbox 360 owners who also happen to be great console RPG lovers.
@JoshuaJSlone, This is one of those "stubborn stock" (like God of War 3, Gear of War 2, Halo Wars). No matter how much money you pour into shorting them, they always bounce back to their previous price sooner or later.
I would suggest you spent your money somewhere else, where the resistance is not as big. Invest if you have big tolerance for losing money in the short term.
8.6 million? Wouldn't that be more than any FF since VII? On PS3? In a time when there's much more intra-FF competition, across all systems? Seems a bit high.
