This article gives a nice description of the upcoming Orange Box game "Portal", including some nice hints as to how the story of this game, and the character involved in it, will link to the overall story and universe of Half-life.
@decidence, why not? Late PC ports to console never do all that well. A recent example on the simexchange, look at F.E.A.R. That was a hit on the PC, but releasing it way later onto Xbox 360 and PS3 resulted in pitiful sales. Most people who have wanted to play these games have had a chance on the PC. Now if they were releasing Half-Life 3 at the same time on PC and Xbox 360, I'd agree with you.
Team fortress 2 is becoming the jewel in the crown for the Orange box. It is hard to imagine the combination of Portal, TF2, Ep1 and 2 along with Half Life 2 not selling particularly well to be honest.
This article gives a hands-on description of Team Fortress 2, including detailed description of each of the classes, and gameplay dynamics. Judging by their description, this games is going to be awesome!!!
With that in mind, unless you want to get everything in Steam, you're going to be forced into the orange box. Granted, this won't affect Xbox as much as it will PC, but perhaps some PC owners who were going to get the black box will now get the orange box and replay the games they already have for PC on their Xbox.
I would like this to be true. I am in two minds whether to purchase this for my PC or my Xbox. The Xbox edition is potentially better value only because I already own Half Life 2.
Gears did say they would not charge but MS poo pooed that but at least they still only do time related charging.
I guess this is another reason why Valve are proud to be independent.
"Counter-Strike is number one and has been since '99 because we kept the game interesting, not because we tried to charge people more, and that's come back in sales of Counter-Strike," he added.
