5 million copies for Starcraft II in one year? LOL. I could see the game selling 5 million copies worldwide in the month the game is released...let alone a year!
I'm not sure why the author thinks a simultaneous North American, Europe, and South Korea release is so newsworthy. I know for sure Warcraft 3 was released in Taiwan the same day as in US, so only mentioning South Korea is understating the release in Asia. The English version of the game is probably going to be available in every East Asia country outside of China and North Korea.
Blizzard on Thursday revealed a StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty pricing model that it hopes will make the game more appealing to gamers in emerging markets such as Mexico, Argentina and Chile.
Blizzard is offering fully localized versions of the PC real-time strategy game for the South American countries for a suggested retail price of around $25-$30USD. That's about half of what it costs for the standard U.S. version, which Blizzard said would cost $59.99.
Blizzard is doing something pretty unusual by launching the game at the same time in North America, Europe and South Korea, ensuring the biggest possible impact for the release. The developer also stated that it planned to offer a digitally distributed version of its new title shortly after reaching stores.
Blizzard and Facebook have struck a deal, which will integrate the social network into Blizzard’s Battle.net service. That means players of “Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty” will be able to find Facebook friends who are also on Battle.net, making it easier to play a game with them.
You know all those summer plans you have? Well StarCraft 2's first piece -- the human-based Wings of Liberty -- was just given a July 27 release date for "stores throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Mexico, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and the regions of Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau." What, no Kyrgyzstan?
Blizzard – makers of StarCraft, Diablo, and Warcraft – has a long relationship with Apple, but hasn't been tossing as many titles their way of late. However, Blizzard is stepping up its Mac efforts as well. Blizzard just released a beta version of the upcoming StarCraft II for Mac.
Shacknews recently revealed that Blizzard Entertainment's next next beta patch for the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty client will pave the way for the release of a Mac version of the beta.
