"Players are reporting long wait times for matches, with connection issues plaguing servers once the matches do start. According to Inifinity Ward, the problem lies with servers getting slammed with far greater traffic than they had anticipated. Fortunately the PS3 server team is on the job."
@Just_Ben, I have my doubts about this comparison, as very well pointed by other people, this article doesn't explain the criteria which should be the base of the comparison. There are too few games that would (or can) outsell Halo 3's release date sales, even release month.
He refers to CoD3 selling 3 million copies, and that wouldn't have been in one month...so I think he's talking about more than just monthly, but the article is so short it's hard to tell (note to gaming websites, stop being lazy...elaborate beyond the headline).
Either way, he's predicting 4 million in sales over 4 platforms. The only info they give to really back up their claims, is that some reports say that retail stores are selling out. Of course, Microsoft shipped a LOT more copies of Halo 3 than Activision sent of CoD4, so sell outs aren't going to give any concrete trends. Retailers could have ordered fewer copies based off of CoD3's sales.
I'm really quite annoyed when websites post articles like this. We have an analyst who might not know what they're talking about (we've seen plenty of cases of that recently), making a vague prediction without a timeline (is it one month, til end of 07, lifetime, ?) and they give virtually no reasoning for what they predict. I'm not sure whether this is the fault of the analyst, the writer or the website, but there's a lot of room for improvement.
@Just_Ben, reread the article again...it is somewhat misleading as it doesn't mention time frame. The analyst may just be comparing November sales for the two games, not lifetime sales. CoD4 may very well outsell Halo 3 in November.
@Just_Ben, that's a big call. We're predicting CoD4 (4.04 million) to be pretty huge, but nowhere as big as Halo 3 (10.42 million). This would certainly help my real ATVI stock so I'm all for it.
Nollenberger Capital Partners analyst Todd Greenwald is predicting big things for Activision's new Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, going as far as to suggest that it may outsell Halo 3.
"Call of Duty 4, which was released two days ago by Activision, appears to be in extremely high demand and is sold out across the board.
@Just_Ben, I think alot of PS owners are like me though...online is a 'new' thing and not the main driver of why we play games (unline Xboxers who have had an integrated online experience since close to day one).
I am now VERY reluctant to spend $60 on a game for 5 hours of single play and having to rely on online to enjoy the game...I like to be able to pick up games 2 or 3 years later and not have to rely on the major attraction being online game play...there won't be any players. It is the same reason I haven't bought Warhawk though it looks great.
I'll be waiting to see how long HAZE or KZ2 or proper Socom are now.
