Those of you who enjoyed the latest Call of Duty’s modern-day approach may be saddened to learn that Treyarch (the dev team responsible for three, and, who will quite possibly end up doing seven) is taking the series back to World War II for the fifth game in the series.
For almost a year now, PS3 owners have had to endure late, lackluster ports of more than their fair share of 360 hands-me-downs. Leave it to Infinity Ward to not only release Call of Duty 4 on the PS3 day and date with the other versions, but deliver an identical experience across the board. A short-but-sweet, incredibly intense single player story serves as a primer for one of the most addictive, constantly rewarding online multiplayer offerings on any system. Buy this game. Now.
I must say CoD4 is the most fun I've had while playing an FPS for a while. The game works very well on console--Infinity Ward made it so you can pull the left trigger to target the enemy closest to your cross hair.
Although you aren't fighting in massive WWII battles, the combat still feels pretty large scale as you battle through cities in the Middle East.
I particularly liked the level where you provide air support for ground forces by gunning from a plane (similar to the desert scene in Transformers). there's also some very nice touches like a level where you wear a gillie suit.
The scripting of events is very well done so that the single player campaign feels extremely intense. The single player isn't the longest, but it is very addicting, so you may find yourself beating the single player game in one sitting.
Not many games deserve a full ten out of ten, but Call of Duty 4 isn't just a game. Call of Duty 4 makes it easy to see why gaming is bigger than the film industry now; its superb, topical touchy story is big screen material and I'm giving nothing away bar the synopsis.
@GoblinMerchant, I got thru the main source that originated this notice and picked up this comment that might answer your question:
960×1080 is high definition through a process called Wobulation in DLP televisions which doubles the horizontal resolution from 960 to 1920X1080 or high definition. It is true that they will prey on the public’s lack of understanding of what high definition really means. To actually create a game in full 1080p without seriously taxing the hardware or ruining the game is a technical achievement that we shouldn’t really expect but should consider ourselves lucky to see.
Sorry that I can't give you more details since I don't know much about HD terms and concepts.
@Crimen, this article claims Uncharted and some other games run at 960x1080...this would mean the output is taller than it is wide, which I highly doubt. That has to be a typo or this article has deeper issues.
Remember all that hullabaloo when Halo 3 was revealed to only be running at 640p? It appears another high profile title is running at even LESS of a resolution (600p) on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.
