More people around the world bought Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare than any other game in 2007, Activision said today.
Citing data from the NPD Group, Chart Track and the GFK Group, the publisher said it has moved more than 7 million copies of the game.
COD4 topped NPD's console charts in December, outsold only by the PlayStation 2 version of Guitar Hero III.
According to Microsoft's figures. As cited by Activision, COD4 is the No. 1 game on Xbox Live based on unique users.
It's worth pointing out that its highly unlikely CoD4 will double its Christmas release sales on a mature console (like the 360) over the next year. In order to do so it will have to perform extremely well in the face of a TON of competition in 2008. Sorry folks, but this should be in the 500-600DKP range.
"Nope. This also includes the PC version.
In the US Sales were:
360 almost 3M PS3 almost 1M PC 383k
In Europe, the sales differential is nowhere near 3-1 360 to PS3 based on every multiplatform number we've seen.
I'd put it at:
360 ~ 4M PS3 ~ 2.25M PC ~ 750k (trackers do not include digital distribution)
Even if we assume that 65% of the sales occurred in the first two months (a percentage which is almost never true), we'd still end up with ~3.5M for COD 4 PS3 GLS.
This is getting insane. This means 7.5 million people are expected to buy CoD4 on Xbox360. I'm sorry this numbers are completely unrealistic.
That means that ~66% of all current Xbox owners have or plan to buy this game. 2:3 is an insane attach rate.
Even if we assume that the 360 will have 20-22 million consoles (a fair assertion) by this time next year, the attach rate is still unrealistic at > 1:3
[COD4] is up for a massive ten nominations in the Interactive Achievement Awards. COD4 is up for: Overall game, Computer Game and Console Game of the Year, as well as Action Game, Outstanding Achievement in Animation, Art Direction, Game Design, Online Gameplay, Sound Design and Visual Engineering Game of the Year awards.
ive made that mistake MANY times. ive noticed it helps to just click on the "community" main tab and look there. It lists all recent comments/articles in any section.
in terms of GLS. i dont know. consumer behavior is pretty tough to peg! though i dont have a position in this (and regret selling it off early), all i hear about from the community, both gaming and nongaming is how much fun they have in COD4. The important thing of course being that even nongaming (or lighly gaming) communities are very excited and very much so enjoying COD4.
i wouldn't discount word of mouth in these communities at all.
Thanks for the reminder. I have removed the article. When I do the submit, I only search article under this stock, and didn't search under industry news.
I think the article shows that COD4 has good dedicated community, which bode well for the GLS of this game. Where do you think the GLS of this game will stop ?
