vgchartz has this game at 1.13 million. I am supposing this is predicted to sell slowly but for a very long time or else the current prediction is probably overpriced.
While the seller will undoubtedly be pleased with his return on the $90 game (presuming the amount is actually tendered out), the auction itself was meant to teach his son a lesson. After hounding out retailers for several weeks to land the "Holy Grail of Xmas presents" for his teenaged son, the Canadian grade-school teacher's self-sacrificing efforts were abruptly tainted, according to the auction.
"It doesn't have anything to do with the system's waggle controller and how that interfaces with the custom guitar. No, the suit is about the game's Dolby Pro Logic II support, or lack thereof."
"While owners of Guitar Hero III on other formats are blissfully enjoying their new downloadable content, Wii owners have not. They've been left out! Hopefully not for much longer, though, as Red Octane have told Nintencast that they're hoping to have some DLC ready to go sometime early next year."
"We expect to have re-mastered discs available by early 2008 and we will be offering consumers replacement discs at no cost once they become available. We thank all of our customers for their support and patience." - Activision
With more than 70 songs in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock and 1.4 million copies of the game sold in the US in its first six days on sale, there are doubtlessly a wealth of people being introduced to new songs by the game. Apparently a significant chunk of those gamers like what they're hearing, because Ars Technica is reporting that a number of tracks included in the game have seen their sales skyrocket on digital music services like iTunes.
I just wanted to bring up this post and congratulate you on being so close (Gaara42 was close as well). Impressive that you two (and other who were a bit further off) were able to make accurate predictions based on the WFC data (average connections to WFC over the 2 weeks of sales showed about 3 connections weekly per copy sold, FYI).
Also, this supports my feeling that Wii owners are less likely to sign up for 3rd party services than PS3/360 owners. While the PS3 initially had more players go to the GH site, the Wii sold nearly 3 times the units. The 360 had a MUCH greater presence on the site, but only had twice the sales of the Wii (no doubt due to GH2 players).
Something for people to consider when other similar information comes in; Wii players are less likely to use services like the GH leaderboards.
