"Fans of the rap rock band may not be 'crawling in their skin' but they'll be more than satisfied with No More Sorrow. There are also tracks from Mastadon and The Used in the song pack."
In case people take the 7.5 million from Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter to be fact, remember that is his estimate. Also (from the article itself) "the figure includes all games in the series, including the recently released Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PC, Wii, Macintosh, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3)." So people should not take this news to mean that the Xbox360 version has sold spectacularly, but that the series as a whole is selling well.
Vgchartz has this game at 1.18 million copies sold and remember they are most likely overestimating as they put October sales at 658,671 copies sold when they were in fact 490,800.
I doubt that this game will reach 3 million or even 2.5 million, especially if EA wisens up and releases a stand-alone package for Rock Band (which most of the people I have talked to like a lot more and are just put off by the price tag at the moment). This game is still being carried by hype and needs to be brought back down, it is competing with itself (courtesy of Wii, PS2 and PS3) and Rock Band and due to this Guitar Hero III for the Xbox360 should probably be somewhere below 250DKP.
The stock is approaching 3 million, which seems a bit bullish for this title. I heard the majority of the interest in GH is in North America. At 3 million, what kind of attach rate are we assuming? Seems a bit high for me.
By the way, this article applies to more then just guitar Hero III, but I didn't know where else to post it, as I'm a fairly new contributor. So if anyone wants to help me out by telling me were I should post stuff like this in the future, I would appreciate it.
While every gamer ponders their best excuse for skipping out on family and loved ones for a day filled with games, Microsoft, Activision, Neversoft and Bungie just added new urgency to the task of excuse making by announcing that on Thursday, Nov. 22 (yes, Thanksgiving), Guitar Hero III players can download the Halo theme (MJOLNIR Mix) through Xbox Live Marketplace. And it's free.
"Trio of industry watchers project 50 to 60 percent software sales spike on Guitar Hero III"
The game braught in $115 million in it's first week of sales alone. This not only has obvios implications for the long stock of the game, but I would say that this indicates that now would be a good time to by October Futures.
