Sales comparisons are hard for Brain Age 2. We can't compare it to Brain Age 1 sales in the US because Brain Age was a new IP then and the series is much bigger now. We can't compare it to Brain Age 2 sales in Japan because the game was released during the holiday season and Brain Age is considerably bigger is Japan. I posted the data just to put things in perspective. I think we can expect the game to sell a lot more than Brain Age 1 in the US, but not as much as Brain Age 2 in Japan. I would say 300K, but that's nothing more than a guess.
This game will be released on August 20, so will be avaliable for around two weeks in the August NPD period.
i have nothing but love for the series, but i just don't see half a million in one month happening. I don't have any actual numbers on the first game (i would love to see them though if anyone else does) ... but i just remember all the podcasts after it came out that repeatedly talked about how much fun it was for a week, but then they never picked it up again. i wonder how many people have this same feeling, and if they do i doubt they will go for round 2.
thoughts? ... or does anyone have any sales info we could base this on from the first game?
For how big a title this is, I am surprised so few people participated in the Phase 1 IPO of this future and the number of comments on the game in general. There haven't even been any comments since before the stock IPOed last week! Has this listing been totally under the radar?
@Sidona, There is a huge difference between this game and the real stock market. For one thing, there is an age and knowledge barrier. I'm lucky to be investing in something at my age, even just to learn basics about stock markets.
"The same holds true in the vast majority of the games we are "investing" in. Those who put in the extra time or effort get the greatest rewards (usually the ones who are up all hours of the night and morning.)"
Its unfortunate that this is a game and not the real stock market, then, and that those with the sense to spend their time wisely will be moving away from a game that demands so much time as to be compared to a market place that people make and lose millions of dollars on.
I don't know how many people here have studied economics, but an individual trying to maximize their profit is essentially helping to find the market price (the true value).
Once again, no one is making much or losing much DKP on the 3 day IPO. There really isn't that much volume traded!
@Arbiter, Sadly, I think the vast majority of the people here aren't really interested in getting an accurate IPO price. I honestly believe most of the people that trade for the IPO price are doing it soley for DKP.
I don't know if a democracy vote amonst the top 100 (which at this point thanks to Project Hammer i will never reach).
But all this 3 day IPO thing is doing is helping people either gain lots of DKP or lose lots of DKP, guess it is like a realy IPO ha!
@Butterball, I think the issue has nothing to do with the time of day of the trades but the fact that there are people who aren't paying attention to the sell price and are buying at 24,000 DKP.
This can happen at 1AM or 1PM. The only way to stop this is to teach those players to pay attention to the prices they are buying at and not to just buy a stock because they like the game regardless of the stock price. I really don't know how we accomplish that since we have been talking about this for a while and there are people still doing it. If they don't read the forum, there is no way to communicate with those people.
