British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has spoken of his desire to stop video game designers from enabling playable characters to use knives, following continued public concern over both rising knife crime and the effects of video games violence in the UK.
Normally not, as far as I know, but publisher try to convince retailers to take more copies if they think they order to less with a take back guarantee. So both is possible. But I would guess that T2/Rockstar doesn't risk things like that, because it costs them money, and thats something they don't have to spare at the moment.
Well it is likely that retailer cut their losses and try to get it to the customer for a lower price instead of throwing them away. They already try to do that. We will see, if I get an answer.
If retailer overestimate by overbuying certain game, can they return the game to the publisher / exchange that game with other game on the same publisher list ? I was never too sure about the standard policy for overbuying, especially in regards of S/W.
@Just_Ben, Just a quick check of websites: Gamestop, Wal-Mart, amazon.com, buy.com all sell the game. Target and Toys R Us don't.
My point is, that the retailers themselves might have vastly overestimated the game's appeal. If there were 500k copies shipped, that doesn't really prove anything.
They can only ship what retailers are willing to take, can't they? Of course I asked for shipped info, thats the only number they have for sure. As far as I know major retailer in the US didn't want to stock it (Wal Mart, Toys'r'Us, Game Stop..). If they tell me they shipped way more than I think (12-15DKP) I will take my losses. But I highly doubt it.
@Just_Ben, Did you ask for sell through info, or shipped to info? If they accede to your request, and give you shipped to info, it'll support the other side of your argument, not yours. Is there any part of you that believes that T2 would ship less than 100,000 copies to the WHOLE WORLD?
If the news is bad, and yet Rockstar / Take Two stil answer your request, I will salute them. If it is me, I will just pretend I didn't receive any request from you :D
Just a little bit correction. It is not 2 days, but 5 days (one week), since NPD Oct 07 is counting data up to Nov 3, not Oct 31.
Very nice argument overall. Now I understand why everyone think it should worth more than 10 DKP.
One think about Just_Ben post. He mentioned that October was less than 30K, but it is NOT 29K or something. It is just that because it is out of Wii Top 30, with cut off value of $1.5 Million, which mean if the Manhunt 2 was released at $50/game, it has sales < 30K. It could be anywhere from 1K to 30K.
I think it will be very difficult to prove that Manhunt 2 Wii sales are dissapointing (as per Just_Ben suspicion), since published usually don't put out PR that has bad news (games not doing well).
