At number four, Mario Party DS was the only survivor of the previous week’s chart, with a third consecutive week of sales above the 100,000 mark (110,000 of Mario Party DS this week). With a new lifetime-to-date total of 460,000 units, the game has now easily outsold Super Mario Galaxy on the Wii, which this week has fallen to number eleven. Gamasutra - Nov 29, 2007
Many DS games (especially ones with feature-rich multiplayer) require every player to have a seperate game cartridge. Or, if there's only one among players, you're limited in what you can do (ie, for Mario Kart DS, the people without a cartridge can only race as Shy Guy and you only have access to 1/4th of the tracks).
Nintendo’s Mario Party DS has enjoyed a strong second week at the top of the Japanese sales charts, with 116,000 units sold, edging ever closer to the lifetime-to-date total for Super Mario Galaxy – which sold around 40,000 units in its third week. The highest new entry of the week is Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles at number two...
It's honestly very difficult to get excited for yet another Mario Party-even though it's the first time it's been made for the Nintendo DS system. What's here is a solid multiplayer mini-game experience with a lot of the flaws of the previous versions. It doesn't do anything truly special than create a bunch of touch screen and microphone-centric minigames, but it at least comes together as a better title than the last console Mario Party design.
Nintendo managed to move over 90,000 units on the first day, according to Enterbrain. We are looking at sales of 200,000 to 400,000 for the first week.
