So why did MK sell more than Brawl last time? And why not know, given the user base on the console is more "casual". Sorry, but I would expect Mario Kart will outsell Brawl as a given?
And what is with the performance of Galaxy. It is the fastest selling Mario ever, as fast as I know. It is a potential throw in on the console. Just because it had a bad Jan? So had the Wii! Who should have bought Galaxy? A I wait what people will say after Feb. numbers or April, when the next shipment numbers come in. I say the bears want to overreact on these 3 titles and the "mass" is smart enough to go against it. 10 Million+ is not out of the question for Galaxy, Brawl and Kart. I would more see that as given, seeing the performance. Don't underestimate the legs of Nintendo games on Nintendo consoles if they are mass market games.
SSBB is priced at 14 million copies right now. The GLS stock is forecasting Mario Kart to outsell even that at 15 million. I really don't think Mario Kart will out sell SSBB, and I think SSBB is overpriced already (given the performance of Galaxy). Both should be strong sells.
Nintendo fans still hoping that the arrival of Mario Kart Wii will herald the beginning of voice chat support on the company's home console will have to put those hopes on hold for a while. The publisher's European subsidiary confirmed in an official Mario Kart Wii posting that players will only be able to communicate with each other via text chat, and not during matches.
Keeping track of every nugget of Mario Kart Wii information is an arduous task, especially considering more is leaking out with each passing day.
To save you the effort, we've decided to build a Mario Kart FAQ that will track the game as we get more news through.
A person claims to have advance info from the next issue of Nintendo Power (though it is entirely UNCONFIRMED RUMOUR right now). The info was mixed in with already confirmed facts, so take with a grain of salt: -Not all of the drivers from previous installments will be returning from DD and MKDS. Don't expect any of the Pac-Man characters from the Arcade games. -About 75% of the drivers are unlockables. There is a ridiculously large amount of drivers. -Hammer Bros., Toadsworth, and Dixie Kong are new drivers. -There will be an original character (possibly more than one) introduced in this game (similar to Toadette's introduction in DD.) -Expect a major comeback from a past Mario character similar to Birdo in Mario Tennis as a driver (I'll keep this one a surprise.) -There will be a new stage called Retro Raceway that pays homage to classic Mario games. -A good number of the tracks will have more than one way to reach the finish line. Expect lots of hidden paths. There are also a lot of traditional racing tracks with no shortcuts whatsoever. -The Blooper item from MKDS will be brought over into MK Wii. -There will be some items that can only be used by motorcycles and some that can only be used by traditional karts. -The Ice Flower from Super Mario Galaxy is an item. It creates an icy trail in your path for a short amount of time that players can slip on.
Every copy of Mario Kart Wii will come packaged with a steering wheel peripheral that houses your Wii remote in the center and gives you the ability to play Mario Kart Wii rotating the wheel left and right in the air. A hole on the left side of the unit makes it so players can still utilize the Wii Remote’s pointer functions for the menu system. But in the case of Mario Kart Wii, the designers made sure you can navigate the menus using the D-pad as well.
Of the 4 control options, they liked the Wiimote/Nunchuck option the best (finding the Wheel causes over-steering at first, but they get used to it).
As stated in the IGN preview, 50cc is Karts, 100cc is Bikes, 150cc is for either.
Also mention of a Mega Mushroom power up.
Mission mode also returns from the DS version.
Friend codes confirmed for online.
