It is quite funny how my original article only get 3 bid, while this later post got 16 bids :(.
Maybe those who upbid this article can share their thought why this happen ? I am not blaming welshbloke, just surprised that this thing happen, especially since my news / second update with news from Kotaku is 4 hours earlier than this article.
Rockstar boss blames "older 360s", company working hard to rectify problems
Following reports of technical problems being suffered by some owners of Bully for the Xbox 360, Rockstar boss Sam Houser has responded by apologising, and assuring fans that the company is working hard to find and fix the problems.
More details of the freeze up / frame rate issues (taken from NeoGAF forum) : - Frame rates drops a lot in town. On campus (early part of the game) it's fairly steady. - Wii version seems to have the best framerate of the three. GameTrailers did a side by side comparison of 360/PS2/Wii. Pay close attention to the scene where he makes out with the fat chick and you'll see what I'm talking about. - Even though Rockstar said it only affect "older X360), some member report it affect X360 Elite launch unit. No report yet whether it also affect Falcon unit. - Some member either state that they are going to get the Wii version (instead of X360), or they are delaying their purchase until a patch was released by Rockstar.
Will the above facts significantly increase the Wii version sales ? I don't think it will, especially since there is not many overlap between X360 gamer (mostly hardcore) and Wii gamer (mostly casual).
Despite the interesting narrative and excellent sandbox experience, the 360 package have less-than-stellar performance of the graphics engine itself. The framerate is erratic and dips every time the game loads a new area. Worst of all, we had several instances where the game froze midmission, and since you can't save at any moment it sometimes necessitated replaying a significant amount of the game.
@apujanata, I have updated the article with kotaku news, who got confirmation from Rockstar.
"We wrote earlier today of the issues surround the Xbox 360 version of Bully: Scholarship Edition, hoping to get a statement from Rockstar Games on the status of either a fix or a replacement plan for those affected. For those not up to speed, the 360 port is reportedly plagued with freezing issues and audio glitches in addition to a less than solid frame rate. Rockstar issued a statement tonight, saying the staff was "devastated" to learn of the issues surrounding the Bully port, something they say didn't come up in the QA process."
I think they need to review the performance of Mad Dog, the company that they outsource the QA of X360 version to.
School days. School days. Dear old golden rule days. I don’t know about you, but personally, I still have wake up in a cold sweat some days thinking that I’m reliving the first day of a new school year. So, it was with a warped sense of glee that I jumped into Rockstar’s original schoolyard romp, Bully, when it was released on the PS2.
Other thing : There is report of inconsistent framerates and audio drop outs.
Those things may made X360 gamers (who are usually internet savvy, and are members of internet forums) stay away from this game, and decrease the sales.
Disclosure : I am going to start shorting this stock, little by little.
Rockstar statement : We have just become aware of the issues people are having with Bully Scholarship Edition on Xbox 360. It appears that some older 360s are experiencing framerate issues, freezes and other problems. We are now working around the clock to rectify this situation. Thanks to Neo-Gaf for bringing this matter to our attention. We apologise to everyone affected for the inconvenience. Respectfully, Sam Houser
"Good thing for second chances. Bully: Scholarship Edition polishes the graphics, adds a handful of new missions and delivers a unique and thoroughly charming experience on Xbox 360."
