Year 1 : 14.4 Year 2 : 21.2 Year 3 : 29.1 Year 4 : 34.5 Year 5 : 16.0 with one quarter left. Last year this quarter produced 12 million so it would put the year at 28 million, a drop off of approx 18% from last year's pace.
Does someone have the year 1 / 2/ 3/ 4/ 5 year sales for the DS....I'd like to see if it is accelerating or not...seems a LONG way to get to 260 Million based on current sales number being 113 million. If it kept current pace for another 5 years it still would only be at 226 Million.
@welshbloke, It is in Nintendo's interest to pro-long life of time of DS, one of their most successful portable ever. Nintendo will only release NEW DS (not just DSL or DSi or DSi LL, but an honest DS2) is AFTER Sony release PSP 2 (not just PSP 2000, 3000, 4000, or PSP Go). Probably one year after PSP 2. I also didn't see Sony releasing PSP 2 in the near future (2010 and 2011), since Sony are probably more focused on nurturing their PS3 sales.
Same thing are happening for PS3, X360 and Wii console, with their prolonged (compared to previous generation) Life shelf.
New Nintendo handheld also confirmed for 2010 EU launch as DSi XL, will sport 4.2" screens and larger stylus, cost ¥20,000 ($220.50) in Japan; 11.7 million units of DS hardware sold in last six months.
according to the article
it seems basically the spec and the function of the new model remain the same,
just the screen become bigger
The retaiil price is the same, 18900 yen
The new 4" DSi model will be released within this year in Japan, places outside Japan are still under discussion
