LYON, FRANCE – 9 June 2008 – Atari today announced that development is complete on the highly anticipated action survival game Alone in the Dark, and the game is on track to ship 20 June in Europe and 24 June in North America for Xbox 360™ game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PC, Wii and PlayStation®2 . The PLAYSTATION®3 version is scheduled for autumn 2008.
Harrison commented,"Swan song" is probably not the right word but I think Atari is part of an industry in some transition from pure packaged media to an online business model and social communication and community model. If we are part of that transition perhaps we are going to take a slightly aggressive leading-edge role in that transition
The 360 and PC versions (developed by Eden games), and the Wii and PS2 versions (Hyrdovision) are due on June 20 in Europe and June 24 in North America. Worryingly though, the PlayStation 3 version of the horror shooter is still sitting in no man's land, receiving only a vague release promise "later in the year."
We sat down in one of Atari's plush game demo rooms, decked out with a nice big HD TV and 5.1 surround sound with a booming subwoofer and had some of the most cinematic gaming experiences we can remember.
Alone in the Dark, we say with all confidence, will impress you. It's one of those games that tries hard to step away from the conventions of videogames to provide you with an experience that's just that little bit more convincing than most.
