"Visually, the game is looking noticeably better than its predecessor. Branches and grass swayed gently in the wind, and the player models seemed to boast greater detail and smoother animation than before..."
What it did do was build sturdy foundations for a sequel. Resistance 2 (a working title) is set two years after the original unsuccessful defense of Britain, with the Chimera beginning a pincered air assault on the east and west coasts of America: the game once again puts you in the mutated shoes of Sergeant Nathan Hale, points you in the direction of some toothy foes, and says: get cracking.
The inevitable marketing lava-stream leading up to the release of Resistance: Fall of Man 2 is heating up. Not wanting you to miss out on a spot of warming in these chilly winter months, SPOnG has a batch of screens from said volcanic PR burst below.
As SPOnG told you last week, we'll be able to see the game sooner than we might have expected.
"I think one of the biggest games for us will be Resistance 2. We expect that, in November, to go toe-to-toe against Gears of War 2. It will be our 3rd-generation PS3 product. Insomniac, having shipped Resistance 1, quietly sold a million units. And then Ratchet & Clank. This is the 3rd[game] on their technology shipping in November."
"Some of these games you are seeing, like a MGS 4, plus Resistance 2 – they're tipping the scales at 30, 40, 50GB."
Watch the above YouTube video. Did you catch it? Near the end there. That’s right, 0708. What does that mean? Why are they covering it up? Could that be a release date for an upcoming Insomniac game? Sure looks like it. And what upcoming game does Insomniac have? Oh yes, the sequel to Resistance: Fall of Man.
Over the years, Insomniac Games has built up a reputation for releasing a new iteration of their Ratchet & Clank franchise yearly on PlayStation 2. One of the first developers to fully immerse themselves in PS3 development, Insomniac looks like it will now be splitting its hard work between Ratchet and Resistance, with each series continuing the tradition of a sequel every other year. Insomniac's wheel-o-development for 2008 has landed on Resistance.
