@Laoldar, Besides the graphics engine, I don't think theres much that could not be done on Wii. The practices of 3rd parties is their perogative, they probably find that Wii owners do not represent a significant fanbase for SF4 if they decide not to realise it on Wii, if they do decide to release then they figure the profit margin is acceptable. I said you should submit it if you believe so strongly that it is coming to Wii, time will tell and then bids will tell. I submitted it for PS3 because I believe the related evidence shows it will very likely be released for it, time will tell and then bids will tell.
I've seen others post games on the SE before the platform is known, I've even seen others post games that have not even been announced at all.
@Laoldar, Yes almost everyone has played Street Fighter 2 at some point because it was a landmark game, a classic that introduced the fighting genre to the world. But that was in what 1992? The fighting genre is not as mainstream as it used to be. How many people have played Street Fighter 3?
Besides the graphics, do any of those games feature anything that the Wii cannot do? Any environment or AI aspects that are so advanced only the 360/PS3 can handle it? If not, that's not a hurdle. Anyways, as the last 1-2 years of sales have shown, 3rd party developers cannot ignore a particular platform...certainly not the fastest selling one. Anyone who tries to stick solely to the 360/PS3 with their install base size and development costs will quickly find their profit margins shrinking from what it was last generation. Rather than ignore the Wii because of the belief that their demographic does not exist there, they should put more content on the system and try to lure their target audience to it (including ones that have not bought a current gen system yet).
And why would I submit a game that hasn't been announced? Capcom isn't going to decide the platform for a game based on SimExchange.
Do you have any comparable stats for the other two consoles? I'm not claiming that the numbers will be the same...but without comparison it lacks meaning. How many 360/PS3 owners haven't used it for a while?
Besides, since when was Street Fighter a "hardcore" only title? Almost everyone I know has played Street Fighter 2 at some point.
@Laoldar, They're more suited because many of those games were developed for the arcade using hardware close to that of the 360/PS3. In addition the hardcore fighting games have usually been on PS2 and to a lesser extent XB, those systems have more of the types of gamers interested in fighters, particularly JA made fighting games. MK is western ofcourse.
Those games would've needed a lot of technical changes to be put onto the Wii. I'm not writing off fighters on the Wii, in my previous post I said: "It could be ported to Wii if they find Wii can handle the graphics" [engine]. The only way I would be writing it off for the Wii is if I said it is not coming to it, should not, or I try to prevent it from being listed on the SE for Wii. Have I done any of those examples... NO. If you want it recognized for the Wii then submit it for the Wii on the SE.
@kspraydad, The haven't used number is for Japan, though.
Also, how many of the PS2 owners are hardcore? I would think a vast majority of those would be casuals. And yet a lot of hardcore fighters came out for the system.
Didn't we just here that >50% of Wii end users are female and that >50% of Wii users haven't used the console in over 3 months? Not exactly the 'hardcore' demographic.
How does that show they're "more suited"? Those 4 games were only for those systems so all that shows is that those developers ignored the Wii.
What about Mortal Kombat? The Wii version only scored 4-6 points lower in Metacritic score than the XBox/PS2 versions, so it's quite possible for have a good hardcore fighter with Wii controls...and that was an early effort.
I think it's a mistake to write off hardcore fighters on the Wii just because a few developers didn't put first-year next gen titles on it.
@Just_Ben, It is but 2 things. 1) It's being developed for the arcade as well and arcade hardware for fighting games generally correlates very well to PS3 & 360 hardware specs. 2) I've seen others post up games on the SE before we have complete platform confirmation. And since its from JA it is very likely to release on PS3, although a 360 port is likely. It could be ported to Wii if they find Wii can handle the graphics, but truly hardcore fighting games are more suited to 360/PS3, as we have seen with DoA4, Tekken 6, VF5, & Soul Calibur IV.
