Speaking to VG, lead Diablo III designer Jay Wilson said that you may well be up in arms about the next class decisions Blizzard’s set to reveal for the game.
“All the barbarian players are delighted and all the necromancers hate us,”he said. “I understand, I don’t begrudge them that. I would hate me too! But what I would say is that when we announce the next class, which is quite similar to a previous class, then all those players will hate us too.
"IncGamers' Diablo III network site Diii.net reports that a rumour regarding the release dates of Diablo III and StarCraft II arose on the Battleforums fansite, and has gotten quite some attention around the web. A source of unknown credibility had told them that Blizzard had relocated the majority of the development team of StarCraft II to Diablo III, and that Diablo III was to be released before the famous RTS game.
Diii.net denies the chance of any such rumours to be true, stating known information about StarCraft II being a long way ahead in the development cycle over Diablo III. They also state the fact that Battle.net 2.0 will launch with the RTS game, making a DIII preemptive release unlikely as the Battle.net upgrade is said to be out before the action RPG game.
Our StarCraft II network site StarCraftWire.net also confirms that the development teams have not changed size. They claim they would not even have commented on this source if the hype had not evolved around it.
This rumour seems to be nothing more than a Diablo fan's wishes ending up in a news feed by accident or intentionally to create hype."
Based on the source of the rumor and the info from Diii.net & StarCraftWire.net, I believe this is the work of a forum poster posting false info.
We received news today from an anonymous source from inside Blizzard, confirming that development of StarCraft 2 will be largely postponed until Blizzard's recently announced, and long-awaited Diablo 3 is ready for the market.
[Starcraft 2] is still being worked on, but only by a minuscule amount of people compared to what [Blizzard] put on the Diablo 3 team.
Wilson revealed that the team was working through the game in a linear fashion, from start to end - "but you want your best work, which you tend to do latest in the project, to be at the beginning of the game". So the team will take plenty of time to revisit what it has already done. "It's pretty much how Blizzard works; we have a tendency to iterate over and over again on everything we do. So we build something and then we rebuild it," he said.
About one week ago, Blizzard has made a response to the Diablo fans' petition complaining about the Diablo III's art direction. But a few days later folks found that an open position posted on it's website.
@Eclectus, Sounds like a plan. Then again, if you are really against it, just don't buy the game. But the fanboys will never listen. They, of course, are the ones who truly know how to make a great game, not Blizzard. Right?
I think the fans have proved their point quite well. The proper thing for Blizzard to do is to add a list of post processing filters that you can cycle through. Even if the shaders for certain filters impacted the frame rate it would be the right thing to do due to the PC's scalable architecture. Problem solved.
For some die-hard “Diablo” fans, signing a petition protesting “Diablo III“’s decidedly new and colorful art direction wasn’t enough; they went ahead and made their own mock-ups for how they think the game should look. When I sat down with lead designer Jay Wilson last week we talked about why the team chose to go with the new, brighter color palette versus the older games’ dark, desaturated look.
