What niche does this game fit? It doesn't appear to be a traditional first person shooter. It doesn't appear to much in the way of an RPG type game. If someone could help me out as too what type of game this is that would be cool.
Afrika US release next month! Ps3fanboy.com writes:
Remember Afrika? It's a nature-themed PS3-exclusive photography game that met moderate success when it debuted in Japan earlier this year. An English release seemed unlikely due to the niche content of the game, but it appears the game will be making its way to American shores -- and from an unlikely source, as well.
National Geographic has picked up the rights for Afrika, rebranding it as National Geographic: Africa.
French site Play3-live reckons that Sony’s game of the year candidate, Afrika, will be coming to Europe after all.
Apparently there was a Sony stand at Photokina in Cologne last week, showing the safari photo-bonanza in English. When inquisitive journalists inquired about it, they were told that the game would be releasing in Europe in 2009.
Afrika isn't about violence, and it's not designed to provide fast-paced thrills or test your reflexes. It's not perfect. The visuals are pretty rather than stunning. The animals don't exhibit much individual behaviour, and their actions can be predictable. And hiding behind bushes can get a bit boring.
Afrika is one of the most pleasant, enjoyable and gently engrossing games I've played in a while. It's a shame Sony isn't releasing it here, and it's worth importing.
On August 28, Sony released for PlayStation 3 in Japan its long-announced, shrouded-in-secret game "Afrika," in which a single player assumes the role of a National Geographic photographer on an African safari to shoot wild animals in the grassland.
Each of the player's photos is then judged on angle, target, distance and technique, and the photographer is rewarded in "cash," which can be used to upgrade his or her camera...

I wonder if you could judge anything by Blu-Ray sales of the Planet Earth documentary, haha...
