Nintendo announce April 20th release date. There will be no subscription fees associated with online play in the NA version. Along with a GameStop-exclusive demo of the game, available on March 8th, they will also score a 500 Monster Hunter Tri Points Card, good towards purchases in the Nintendo Wii or DSi shopping channels.
The Wii-exclusive Monster Hunter 3 from Capcom is edging closer to the million-units-sold mark in Japan, with 51,000 units sold this week, and 800,000 sold to date.
Last week it sold 90K+
I wouldn't short this on this evidence at all. Current price seems entirely attainable. Not to mention, if you did short it, you'd never get the money out again at anything like a decent margin.
@yajimari21, IMO, when shorting something, it better to have a minimum (worst case) profit margin of 30%. This stock only have 15% profit margin (2.3 Mil current price - 2 Million worst case scenario / 2.3 Mil current price = 15%), therefore it is a risky short (and really dangerous long).
From those numbers it looks like this game should head for about 1.8-2 mill WW, in the absence of any major rise in its popularity overseas and unexpectedly long legs in Japan. Might be a marginally good stock to short at the current price, although there are quite a few other better short opportunities available now.
It's no joke that Monster Hunter is ridiculously huge in Japan. With Monster Hunter Tri releasing this Saturday in Japan, it's showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, the initial Japanese shipment of Monster Hunter Tri has surpassed 1 million units!
Monster Hunter 3 will be releasing August 1st in Japan. On the same day at 10am, the network service will become available.
There are some free deals for people who want to test the online features for either 20 days, or 90 days. After this though, players will have to pay for the online by purchasing "Hunting Tickets".
The prices are as follows...
A 30 day ticket - 800 Wii Points
A 60 day ticket - 1500 Wii Points
A 90 day ticket - 2000 Wii Points
Until now Capcom was coy to confirm it, but Monster Hunter Tri is without a doubt getting an overseas release. Their 2008 financial results presentation states Monster Hunter Tri will come out in “FY 2009″ or, in plain English, sometime between April 2009 - April 2010. Monster Hunter Tri comes has an ambiguous summer target in Japan. I wouldn’t expect a domestic release until this winter.
