"Adequate but a touch disappointing" best sums up the Xbox 360 version. Fine edges lose precision, and while the effect is mitigated thanks to the MSAA along with the multitude of post processing effects the engine has at its disposal, the fact is that the lack of resolution can make the 360 build look sub-par. The clean CG look of the PS3 game in motion is unduly compromised, and while it's still a handsome enough title on Xbox 360, it lacks the pristine presentation of its sibling.
We already played Final Fantasy XIII's Tokyo Game Show demo at the Final Fantasy XIII Premiere Party event earlier this month. But you weren't expecting Square Enix to be totally quiet about the game as Japan's biggest gaming event approached, were you? Sure enough, Famitsu came through today with a massive update on the game.
@apujanata, I disagree. Games have the best opportunity to sell the most copies during a console's prime. FF XII was impacted not only by releasing a year after 360, which as you point out was ~4-5 million (and Wii and PS3, another few million). But also impacted within the months and years afterward.
As you probably know interest wanes in old gen consoles, weeks, months, and years after next gen consoles release. Games don't get years of an even climate and competition. FF XII wasn't up against games from its gen after its release, it was up against next gen in the mindsets of gamers and in retail. Instead of having 3-5 years, it had months-1 year before next gen took over.
Additionally, as you get near the end of a console's lifecycle people are not just moving on to next gen, they're moving onto other interests. Just because a console's sales are at 120 million doesn't mean 120 million are still using it, especially when at that point in time a lot of those were casual sales.
@DrMarioKart, SimEx current prediction for X360 is 66 Million, not 40 Million.
@Joe80, PS2 is released March 2006 in Japan, Oct 06 in US, Feb 07 in Europe. By its release, - in Japan, X360 only have 100 - 200K userbase, while PS3 and Wii was not released yet. - in US, X360 only have 2.8 Million userbase, while PS3 and Wii are not released yet. - in Europe, X360 probably have around 1-2 Million userbase, Wii probably 1 Million userbase, while PS3 are not released yet (IIRC).
I think the impact of next gen platform movement for FFXII is minimal, to say the least.
Since I have 2 Million DKP tied up in this stock as short, I believe this stock should go down.
@Oznerol, I don't know whether you have this problem or not, but Joe80 and me both have lots of idle/ spare DKP. In my case it is because I wanted to focus on future, and I need those "spare" DKP for big future investment, if and when the chances arise. In Joe80 case, it is because he couldn't find any good stock to invest on.
For those people who have lots of idle money, this is a good stock to go short on, at the current (4 Million) price point. If the price rise again significantly, say 20 - 30%, I am going to put more short on it :). I put small barrier at 4.9 Million price point.
I agree, but I also think it's far too early to start shorting it as a release date isn't even announced - my guess is early/mid 2010.
Having your available funds tied up in a stock for an undetermined amount of time isn't a great idea - particularly if you're shorting as stocks here tend to slowly grow over time due to the time trust (among other things).
If you don't mind those things, it's not a bad idea to short, as it's destined to crash. I also think the 6 million+ estimated on the PS3 is high.
@DrMarioKart, I would argue that much of that installed base had either stopped playing PS2 or moved on to another system before, during, and immediately after FF12's release because of it releasing so late in PS2's life cycle. And the 360 install base has more core to casual ratio at this point in time than PS2 had when FF12 released.
Not saying I completely disagree with you though. I have no position in this stock because I see it going either way right now.
Wait, so FF12 sells ~5 million worldwide on a 120 million+ PS2 install base, and FF13 is going to sell 4 million on a (lets generously assume) 40 million install base that doesnt even like JRPGs? (zero million seller jrpgs worldwide)
