Activision announced today that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 "Stimulus Package" set a new Xbox Live record -- clearly, mapathy had set in. According to Microsoft's figures, the DLC pack was downloaded over one million times in 24 hours, surpassing 2.5 million units within a week. All at $15 a pop.

Activision has revealed that Modern Warfare 2 made USD 310 million on it's first day on sale - in the US and UK markets alone.

Activision sold 1.23 million copies of Modern Warfare 2 in the UK on the game's first day on release, MCV can reveal. Incredibly, that's double the number GTA IV sold through in its first 24 hours on shelves – making MW2 by far the fastest-selling video game in UK history. The figure – which represents close to one in 24 UK homes – comes from official GfK-ChartTrack data obtained by MCV.
Activision has shipped some 3 million copies of Modern Warfare 2 UK to satisfy the huge level of demand for the game.
Industry insiders believe the launch will break all sales records, beating GTAIV's five day UK record of over 900,000 units sold.
This holiday season's biggest entertainment blockbuster likely will be a sequel to a popular franchise, with jarring depictions of war and an intricate story of good versus evil. It could easily rake in more than last year's record $155 million opening weekend for "The Dark Knight."
But this blockbuster is not a movie.

Assuming that the PREORDER split matches the split for first month's sales. I've no idea how accurate an indicator of the platform split preorders are.
My guess is that if we accept the folk-wisdom that hardcore shooter fans gravitate towards the 360, it might be reasonable to expect preorders to favour the 360 more than post-launch sales.
