@chemchok, That site follows famitsu, and Famitsu have # for Top 30.
Kotaku is referring to M-create, who only have # for Top 10.
I didn't follow bayonetta closely, but usually, when a game is below Top 30, the # is quite insignificant, that the LTD will not differ wildly (it will not be 650K instead of 165K. It will be something close, like 185K or 195K).
@chemchok,No prob...I didn't post it as an article...my point though is that SE had worked the news into its projection already (I think we are way undervaluing but thats just me)
@apujanata, That logic is flawed. The numbers that site is quoting only represent the first two weeks of sales in Japan for the PS3 version of Bayonetta. See this Kotaku Japan game chart. It was knocked out of the top ten list its third week so sales were no longer reported. In other words, it looks like the site you linked to only lists the sales of a game during the period in which it was a top ten seller in Japan. Sales are clearly higher than 165k in Japan for the PS3, though by exactly how much would be a guess.
On the other hand, you are correct that the 1.1 million is the combined global units shipped. It states this clearly on the last page of SEGA's quarterly report.
SEGA announced in its third quarter fiscal results dated February 5, 2010 that worldwide sales of Bayonetta on XBox360 and PS3 have totaled 1.1 million so far.
I believe that 1.1 Million "shipped" / "sold to retailer" figure included shipment to US & Europe, since Bayonetta is released Jan 5 in US and Jan 8 in Europe. Shipment to US & Europe should have around 1 week to 2 week lead time, so by Dec 31, SEGA would have shipped the first shipment of retailer order and book the figure into their financial report.
This game coulbe be one of those that will have big difference between shipped and sold to customer, just like Conduit and Mad World.
