@ixaarii, this is what I was thinking as well. On the original Xbox, Halo games were by far the best. This generation, there is strong competition from franchises like CoD, Half-life, etc. We're seeing all the big PC shooter titles porting to console and taking market share. However, I do think Halo 3 is probably undervalued right now, but I agree there is some concern in the stock.
@justcrim, maybe for the original xb halo a key figurehead among fewer big titles while in this generation it may get drowned? ... or maybe it's just low cash flow/availability in the market and people don't want to stand on stock that isn't moving anymore and want to move onto hotter fields? it is a bit soon though for that though with halo 3 still in full sales...
Does anyone have any insight to the under value of this stock? Expecting any less then 8-9 million is just ridiculous. I mean, seriously, what did I miss? I posted the previous numbers of Halo games, and this one has set the bar even higher with being the top grossing game ever. Yet some how it's stocks are falling. Honestly, things like this make me doubt the SE's accuracy more and more. The traders show very little intelligence. They see everything so 1 dimensional and base everything off of current trends of other games.
Halo is not like any other game in existence. Every Halo game has continued to sell extremely well after launch. And will sell more and more every time the system and the games drop in price.
This current price is way below this stocks value, and I want to see reasons why we expect this game to sell little.
"This might be a good sign for Halo 3 sales. Even NYT is referring to this epic game, when talking about consoles. Even more, it quotes wal street saying
its a game "poeple walk on water for it". Jeese never thought it makes you Jesus.
Please note this is light hearted sarcasm on a serious NYT article. it makes a point about halo 3 name recognition and popularity.
@feelmyring, they were just discussing this on CNBC. Apparently a lot of machines "melt" and the turn around repair time is almost a month. For many, the returned unit doesn't even work.
Wow, people are doubting this game's total sales based on first months sales? Have we not paid attention to previous Halo games? Are we all oblivious to the power and force of Halo games?
Seriously, lets re consider this. Lets start with logic. Halo 1 and Halo 1 stayed at the launch price for about to over a year. This only happens when a game continues to sell well at that current price. When The games dropped in price, they stayed at those prices for a long time. Again, prices only maintain so long as the game sells at that price.
Now, lets use my personal experience with the Halo games and working in retail that sold Halo 1 and 2. Nearly every Xbox sold to a new Xbox customer left with Halo 1, 2 or both since their release. Halo 1 and 2 was constantly coming in and being stocked. When Halo 2 was over a year old, Halo 1 was continuing to sell really well. Now, you can say this is isolated, but this was the case while working at Best Buy then CompUSA.
Now, lets use VGChartz. I personally dont like this site, but I know a lot of people use them like they are fact. So, just because I believe the predictions being said here are going the wrong way, I shall use the site to prove my point.
VG Chartz shows Halo 1's total sales at 6.43 Million. Halo 2 came in with 8.39 million. Now, I dont know if this is world wide or only in America, but either way, if Halo 2 sold 8.39 million, Halo 3 will match if not surpass that. It is everything that people loved about Halo 2 in multiplayer with an improved single player game all in the next gen spirit of graphics.
I know at this time there are only like 11 million systems out there, but it has been long known that most Xbox owners are Halo fans. So, I would expect at least 60% of Xbox owners will buy Halo 3 eventually. Some are just waiting for the price of the system and/or game to come to the price they can afford.
Call me crazy, call me ignorant, but a 7 million prediction is both crazy and ignorant in my opinion. I would guess this game will have a life time sales total of no less then 9 million. Halo games have proven in the past that they do not disappear off the map after the first year, and will continue to sell well as the price of the system and game drop in the coming years.
any one have exact figures on how many halo 3 games, (including bundles) have been sold to date in the usa?
based on my approximation, they should be about 6-10 million sold. This is based on the number of people online at any given time.
For example, CC3 sold more than half a million in US and has 600 people playing online on Sunday night London time, while halo 3 has nearly 300,000++ people playing online. (No joke, serious as reporeted by xbox live)
